' Be it known that I, RICHARD IHUBBRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashtabula, in the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio have invented new and useful of which the fol- Vdetachable characteristics is also adapted to permit ofthe hanging of a door with respect to a jamb without the employment of skilled labor.

The invention further contemplates the` provision of a concealed hinge by'which the elimination of the well known pintle is effected.

The invention in all of its details will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which Y Figure 1 is a front elevation illustrating my novel hinge as the same appears when properly secured to adoor and jamb.

This leaf is .somewhat similar tothe leaf -12 with the exception that it is not provided with the slots but is provided with screws receiving apertures adapted to receive the screw or screws 7a. The leaves 12 and 15b are securely held with respect to each other by means of the pintle 1,8 and.

the leaf 15b is provided with an opening 15a through which the strap 14 passes into the cut out portion 16 of the door. The leaf is further provided with the integral portion 15 that bears against thefside of the door as shown in Figure t. y

In the practical use of this invention the plates t and 8 are properly positioned by means of the small nails but previous to this securing operation the movable element Y comprising the leaves 12 and 15h is positioned on the plate 4t with the portion 7 resting between said leaves. The leaves are then separated to the position shown in F igure 3 and the screws 7a are then seated into the door. Manifestly if desired screws may be passed through some of the apertures of the leaf 15b before the plate and portion 7 thereof has been placed so as to be straddled by the leaves. Then the plate has been properly positioned on the ydoor as shown in Figure t it is then merely necessary to secure the plate 8 tothe jamb by meanskof the small brads or pins 5. The rivet headed screws are then driven so as to have the head extending slightly outward from the plate when it is simply necessary to lift the door so that the channels 12l may clear the rivets 13. yl/Vhen this has been accomplished it is simply necessary rto let go the door in order that the upper ends Yof the channels may bear against the shank of the screw. It will be apparent that brads 9 may be used to properly position the plate ,38 as is the case with the position of the plate 4 by means of the brads 5. It will be readily apparent that a novice may hang' the door and the hinge as a whole as far as the application thereof is practically fool proof for the reason that because of a peculiar construction of the slots or channels 12a the leaves 12 and 15" may be put on upside down or vice versa without defeating the purpose of the invention.

The hanging of the latter class of doors iequires the exercise of a .large amount of skill with the consequent increase in the cost y Y of the vehicle due to the high wages paid to skilled mechanics. lVith my invention, any Yperson capable of handling a screw driver may within a very shortvtime become eilicient in the attachment and securing of a door to a Vjamb and when means of my invention the liability of the sagging of a door is effectually precluded.

The hinge is instantly detachable and is likewise a right-hand or left-hand hinge and permits of the removal'of the door without the withdrawal of the screws.

lVhen desired the leaves `12 and 15b be constructed without the such case it would be necessary to hinge the plates to each other by means of a pintle surrounded by a spring. This construction would permit of the hanging of light doors such as screen doors.
