` To all wlw/n. it may concer/n.' n
Beit known that I, JONAS NoR'rHnor, a
citizen of the United States, residing atl matic bobbin replenishing looms to fill up the magazine or hopper with bobbins and to allow a few spare bobbins to lie on the woven cloth between the fell and the breast beam where they are convenient for insertion in the magazine when the bobbins become exhausted therefrom. This practice occasionally results in a bobbin getting caught between the sand roll and the breast beam frame. Now, it is necessary that a certain amount of space be left between the breast beam andthe sand rollin order to convenience the operative in smoothing the cloth as it passes on to the sand roll, so that merely to locate the sand roll close enough to the breast beam so that no bobbins could get caught in the space would be impracticable. Furthermore, to allow the space between the breast beam and the sand roll to be of sutlicient width to permit bobbins to pass through would result in causing bobbins to fall down through on to the floor.
The object of the present invention is to produce a construction applicable alike to new and old looms which will prevent the accidentalcatching of bobbins between the sand roll and the breast beam, and to this end the invention consists in the improvement in looms hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred form of the invention, Fig. 1 is a plan of the front of a loom with the present invention applied thereto; and Fig.
2 is a sectional elevation of the sand roll and breast beam with the present invention in place. 'c
The illustrated embodlment of the lnvention is described as follows: The breast beam 10 ofthe loom extends from side to H side across the front of the loom above the sand roll 12, `over which the cloth 14 passes on its way to the wind-up roll. A fell is indicated at 16 beyond which the threads 18 of the war are shown. Extending across the loom rom selvage to selvage of the woven cloth is a bobbin bar 20. This bobbin bar is riveted to two arms 22 supported on pivots 24 which are received in pivot blocks v26 secured by bolts 28 to the breast beam.
Adjusting screws 30 are screwed through the arms 22, and their ends rest upon the top of the breast beam. Set nuts 32 are em loyed to hold the adjusting screws 30 in adjusted position. The adjusting screws 30 permit adjustment ofthe'position ofthe bobbin bar to' correspond to diii'ere'nt positions of adjustment of the sand roll.
. The arrangement is such that the bobbin bar 2O is -supported close to but slightly above the surface ofthe cloth passing over the sand roll, so that it does not bear uponnor injure the cloth as it passes by it. The bobbin bar catchesany bobbins which may be on the cloth and prevents them from get ting caught between the sand roll and the breast beam.
It will be observed that the bobbin bar is ivoted on the breast beam so that when it 1s desired to lift it to rovide access of the operative to the cloth 1t may be easil and quickly done, and as easily and quickly replaced. This also affords the additional space required to permit the passage of the warp knots when a new warp is put on the loom. e
This invention, it will be observed, isa plicable not only to new looms, but may `1. A loom having, in combination, a breast lied as well to old looms and it may be be'am, a sand roll receiving the cloth as it approaches the breast beam, and a bobbin bar supported above the sand roll and adjacent to the breast beam for preventin bobbins from catching between the san roll and the breast beam. A loom having, in combination, a breast supported above the sand roll andl adjacent 10 beam, a sand roll supported adjacent thereto, to the Vbreast beam for preventing bobbins and a bobbin bar pivotaliy mounted on the from catching between the sand roll and the breast beam and supported above and close breast beam, and means for adjusting the 5 to the surface of thesand roll and near the osition of the bobbin bar to corres ond to l edge of the breast beam. v lfferent positions of adjustment of t e sand 15 4.
