Description

(IGBEPOSITICN 0F MATT FQ MGTQE FUEL Ho massing".
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, WILBUR G. Dunmno, a citizen of the United States, and a resident ofPhiladelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented a new and improved Composition of Matter for Motor Fuel, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a composition of matter for motor fuel. An object of the invention is to provide a simple ingredient which when added to ordinary motor fuel or gasoline in approximately definite proportions will provide a compound for the purpose of preventing the deposit of carbon on spark plugs and in the cy inders; for removing depbsits of carbon already formed, and for providing upper-cylinder lubrication.
To this end I add to the'gasoline a coal tar acid product in a relatively small quantity, and l find that by so doing the carbon already formed in the cylinders is removed. and the formation of carbon is prevented and that the up or cylinder is well lubricated thereby. ne particular coal tar acid product which i use is crude cresylic acid. This particular acid product, however, is only representative of one of a group of products which may be used.
I prefer to use crude cresylic acid per I cent. dark) in a pro ortion of about five.
per cent. of the tota amount of gasoline into which it is to be poured. l have found that there is nothing special in the manner of mixing the motor fuel and-this ingredicut, all that is necessary being merely to add Application filed February 19, 1928. serial No. 618319.
the proper amount of the acid to the gasoline in the tank on the car.
The combination thus formed is found to achieve the results above described, and it is certainl clear that the invention is simplicity itsel merely requiring the addition to the gasoline of a small amount of this ingredient, which can be poured into the tank on the automobile.
It is, of course, understood that the invention is not limited to the exact proportill tions above mentioned, nor to the exact ingredients referred to, since thep'roportions and the ingredients mentioned are merely representative of one application of the invention.
It is to be understood that by using the word gasoline and the words hydrocarbon motor fuel throughout this specification and claims, those groups of hydrocarhon fractions, such as benzine, naphtha, gasoline, kerosene and toluene, are indicated as well as their equivalents.
1. A motor fuel, which comprises gasoline and up to ten er cent. of cresol.
2. A. motor line, which comprises gasoline, naphtha, benzine and kerosene, and ten per cent. of cresol.
3. A compound which comprises the addition of up to ten per cent; of cresylic acid to ordinary commercial gasoline.
4. A compound which comprises ordinary dll till
commercial gasoline to which has been added I five per cent. of crude cresylic acid.
