ELECTRIC-IRON HOLDER.'
Application fileiirebruary 19, 1923;V l'serialfnm619,997.
To all whom t may concer/n.
Be it known that I, ALoIs AUGUST RITTER,
a citizen of the United States, and resident It has become the practice recently toV equip Wardrobe trunks with electric irons,
but diiiiculty has been experienced in preventing the iron from moving about within the trunk while the trunk is in transit.
it is therefore the particular object of this invention to provide means whereby an electric iron or the like may be conveniently mounted within a wardrobe trunk and predisplaced, even though the trunk be subjected to rough usage. The iron holder forming the subject matter of this invention also contemplates the provision of means whereby the iron may be quickly and easily released when it is desired to use the same.
The novel combination, construction-and arrangement of parts of this invention will be made more apparent as the description proceeds, especially when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein; Y
Figure 1 isa fragmentary front elevational view of a wardrobe trunk, partly in section, showing this improved iron holder in place;
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the iron holder, part of the iron being shown in section;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, taken substantially on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 in Fig. 2; and,
Fig. 4 is a sectional view, taken substantially on the plane indicated by the line 4-4 in Fig. 2.
vReferring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate like parts, it will be seen that the reference character 10 indicates a wardrobe trunk which may be of any suitable type of construction and provided with a plurality of drawers l1. The iron holder consists vof 'al base 12 which may be formedV of a board or' the like, thisbase member lbeing suitably shaped to fit in :oneof the compartments 13 of one of the drawers V11.: 7
f Projecting Yupwardly from the base is V*an upright or standard 14, this upright being providedA with a pair of spaced slots15. The clampingmember consists of a transverse strlp or member 16, one end of which is designed to enter'one of the slots 15, depending upon the size of the iron. The other end of the clamping member 16 is provided with an elongated slot 17 for receiving the clamping bolt 18, pivoted as at 19, to a bracket 20 secured to the base 12.
A thumb nut 21, threaded on the clamping ,bolt 18 is adapted to engage the clamping member v16.
The reference character 22 indicates the iron, and the reference characterl 23 the U-shaped portion of the iron handle which supports the grip 24. y
Secured at right angles to the clamping member 16 is a secondary clamping member 25, which member is formed with an open ended slot 26, adapted to engage one shank of the U-shaped handle member23,
as clearly illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4. Aj
chain or other flexible means 27 is connected respectively to the 'bracket 2O and the iron clamping' member to prevent the same from becoming lost. 'n
In practice the secondary clamping member 25 is caused to engage, by means of its slot 26, the handle portion 23, while the transversely extending portion of th'e clamping member is so manipulated that one end' thereof is projected into one of the slots 15 of the upright 14 and the other end arranged to be engaged by the clamping bolt 18, which enters the slot 17. y
The thumb nut 21 is then rotated to cause the clamping member 16 to bear down tightly against the iron, whereupon the iron will be firmly held to the base 12 and prevented from moving around the trunk. Obviously the base 12 may either be fastened to the Hoor of the drawer in which it is placed, or it may be caused to firmly` engage the same by fitting snugly therein.
lFrom the foregoing description it will be Q Y Y 1,494,806 Y immediately apparent that the iron may be secured in place or removed with facility,
Y. is claimed is: i
1. In an iro-n holder of the class described a base member, an' upright projecting therefrom, said upright' being formed With Y a slot, a clamping -bolt pivotally secured to said base member and a removable clamping member adapted to engage the slot of said upright and to be clamped against the ironv by said pivoted bolt member. 2. An iron holder of the class described ycomprising a base member, an upright mounted on said member and provided With va plurality of slots, a pivoted clamping 'bolt Y mounted on said base member and an ironV clamping member adapted to engage one of said slots and to be'engagedby said clamping bolt, for the purpose described. e
Y 3. In an iron holder Vofthe class describedV a base member, an upright member secured' to said base member, said upright member being formed with Ya Vplurality of slots, av clamping bolt pivotally mounted on said base member'and an iron clamping member comprising a transverse clampingrportion and an angular clamping portion, said transverse clamping member being adapted to engage at one end With one of said slots, the other end of said member beingslotted to receive said clampingV bolt, said angular o clamping member lbeing formed with an open ended slot to yengage the' handlerof the iron.V f,
In testimony ture.
whereof, l aiix `my si-gna- Y ALoisAUGUeT RITTER(V
