Description

May 26, 1936. H, AUBERT 2,042,086

sK I CLAMP Filed April 29, i955 6 Inventor iyz'miz M8711 I By Attorney Patented May 26, 1936 STATES AT Q FF l c E 2 Claims.

The present invention relates to improvements in clamps for fastening skis and ski-poles.

An object of the invention is the provision of a clamping device designed so as to clamp skis and ski-poles together to facilitate carriage and storage thereof.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a clamp of the above character which may be quickly and easily disposed in ski clamping position.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a clamp of the aforesaid character which may be conveniently opened and detached from the skis.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a ski clamp which will firmly hold a pair of skis and ski-poles in compactly assembled relation.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a ski clamp of the above character which is relatively simple and durable in construction and which is efficient for the purpose intended.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description progresses.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the same:-

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a pair of the clamps employed to clamp together a pair of skis and ski poles,

Figure 2 is an enlarged section taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the clamp in closed position,

Figure 4 is a plan view of the clamp in open position, and

Figure 5 is a fragmentary section on line 5-5 of Figure 4.

Referring to the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, A generally designates the clamp body composed of a pair of complementary, relatively movable, sections l and II. The sections Ill and H embody an elongated bar, preferably formed of metal, having the intermediate portion bent to form an arcuate laterally and outwardly extending clamp bracket I2. At the inner end each of the sections is formed with a right angular inwardly directed arm I3 the ends of which terminate in hinge eyes connected by a hinge pin [4 forming a hinge connection. At the outer end each of the sections is formed with an indented longitudinally disposed slot disposed to receive therein a threaded fastening bolt l6.

One end of the bolt I6 is rigidly connected with a plate member I! connected to the outer side of the section I I by means of a hinge I8. On the outer end portion of the bolt is threadedly mounted a wing nut I9. Upon the intermediate portion of the bolt I6 is fitted a coiled compression spring 20 tending to resiliently press a washer 2| against the nut l9.

Within the arcuate bracket projections l2 are disposed correspondingly curved pole gripping jaws 23 each of which is rotatably mounted on the inner end of a screw 25 preferably formed with a flanged head 26 at the outer end. The screws 25 are adapted to be adjusted laterally of each clamp section and move through an interiorly threaded aperture in a boss 21 formed on the central portion of each of the brackets I2.

The device is used as follows:-

A pair of skis, as shown at Figure 1, are disposed in face to face longitudinally extending positions and ski-poles arranged longitudinally against the outer sides thereof. A pair of clamps A are secured about the skis and poles adjacent each end of the assembly. Each clamp is applied by initially opening the same, as shown at Figure 4, that is, swinging the sections away from one another so that the same may be conveniently positioned on the skis. Upon arrangement of the clamp on the skis the sections are swung toward one another and the free end of the bolt l6 slidably inserted into the end portion of the section opposed to that to which the bolt is fastened, the nut l9 being arranged outwardly of the section while the washer 2| is arranged inwardly thereof. The wing nut is then rotated to tightly fasten the clamps on the skis. After fastening of the clamp sections, the screws 25 are rotated so that the jaws 23 move against and. firmly press the ski-poles against the skis so that the various parts are firmly fastened together.

To remove the clamps, the nut I9 is rotated toward the free end of the bolt 16 and the spring 20 automatically forces the clamp sections apart enabling convenient outward swinging movement and detachment of the free end of the bolt from one clamp section. Thus, the spring 20 not only facilitates the detachment of the clamp but enables the removal thereof without difficulty.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes as to the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A ski clamp, comprising a pair of complementary clamp sections hingedly connected at one end, said sections being bent at right angles from the hinged connection, at a distance corresponding to the minimum thickness of an ordinary ski to form parallel section jaws, a pivoted plate at one end of one section, a bolt secured to said plate and adapted to swing into slots provided at the end of each section, a spring over the bolt and between the section ends to urge the same apart, a wing nut on the bolt to force the sections together, and ski poles retaining means provided on bulges centrally formed on the section jaws for accommodating ski poles inserted therein againsta pair of skis in longitudinally assembled relation and embraced by the clamp.

2. A ski clamp, comprising a pair of right angularly bent sections having a short arm and a longer arm embodying a curved portion laterally and outwardly extending, said longer arm being further slotted longitudinally at the end, a hinge connecting said sections at the end of the short arm, means for fastening together the section ends against the action of a spring, wing screws provided through each curved portion of the sections, and a curved plate at the end of each screw for engaging ski poles inserted in the curved portions and pressing the same against skis assembled in longitudinal relation and embraced by the long arm of the sections.

HERMENEGILDE AUBERT.
