` Be itlrnow that l, CARY E. FALL, a citizen ofthe United States, residing in lVashington Township, in the .county of Boone and State of indiana, have invented a new and `useful Changeable Classified Business Dii'rectory, ofwhich the following is a specification, reference, being h'adto the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.I

Thisinvention relates' to a type of directory that is designedtobe hung on a wall or elsewhere, and has reference more'y of such construction 'asto permit the use of stoclr or standard printed ,matten particularly letter heads, .which `m'ayvbeespe-l cially artistic and attractive, thus avoiding the cost of 'designing and printingfadvertising'matterespecially for a businessv directory.

" 'A further object is to provide a sectional,i changeable business directory which shall be so constructed as `to permit ready changes of classification and also additional classifications` and" advertisements, and which shall not be costly but yet be durable and` economical in use. u

With the above-mentioned".v andi otherV objects in view, the invention 'consists vin a hanger having advertisement holders and changeable business classifications of novel construction and arrangement permitting ready inspection of business advertisements; and, the invention consists also further in the parts and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter particularly described and further defined in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings,-Figure l is a front view of the improved business directory constructed substantially in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is an edge view of the directory in which advertisement holders thereof are differently arranged; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical section of the directory structure on an enlarged scale; and Fig. e is a fragmentary yrear elevation of the structure.

A practical embodiment of the invention comprises 'one or more hanger sections hav- 65 ing each a plurality of advertisement holders composed principally of suitable fabric, wl1ich-for outdoor use may be made water proof, and each holder preferably has ar transparent front to constitute a pocket in which an advertisement may be removably placed and protected, the front of the holder preferably being Waterproof. Preferably two'or more directory sections are arranged side by side and are connected to an upper baclrportion 1 that is common to all the sections and turned over to `constitute a front panel 2 and inclosing a stiifening bar or rod 3, which may be composed of metal,

to constitute a supportingy head at the lower portion of which isa bending line 4 from "which extendsy a holder flap 5. The front panel 2 has a suitable` printed or painted heading 6 thereon, andthe head of the directory may be secured'to a wall or else- 85 where by means of screws 7 with which the head lis provided. A back panel 8 is arranged so as to extend downward from the directory ,head and yits upper portion is secured to the back of the portion 1, it preflerably having a broad portion 9 that extends up to theupper end of the portion 1 so as to receive the securing yscrews and afford iirm support for the section. The

fabricv or cloth :of which the back panel 8 95 is composed has a bending line l0 from which extends a holder flap 11, the latter being partially behind the flap 5. The remaining portion of each section is composed of similar back panels l2 secured at their 100 upper edges to the lower portions of the next adjacent panels slightly above the bending lines 10, one having a holder 13 partially covered by the iiap l1, and the adjacent panel below having a similar holder 14, partially covered by the fiap 13. The holders may be variously stiifened so that when swung upward from the normal hinge portion the fabric will bend and permit the holder to have a hinge-like movement on the bending line 10. The panels of which the back of each section is composed may be variously secured together, preferably by means of rows of stitching 15 arranged above each bending line 10.

It is designed that a slip of paper or card board containing a printed advertisement be suitably secured on the front of each holder, a standard size ofletter head being conveniently and cheaply obtained by cutting it from a sheet of letter paper of the establishment desiring to be advertised in hotels, railway stations or elsewhere. Preferably each holder has a celluloid front 16 arranged thereon and extending from the lower edge of the holder upward nearly to the row of stitching 15, the front being secured in place by a bottom row of stitching 17 and side rows of stitching 18 and 19, to constitute a pocket having a transparent front. A suitable number of business classication labels 2O arel provided which are removably placed in the lower portions of the pockets, the labels having different classifying titles, as 21 and 22, to indicate the character of the different businesses, the labels being arranged so that the classifications shall be in alphabetical order. Advertising slips or sheets 23 are placed in the pockets or otherwise secured to the fronts of the holders and extend behind the labels 20, the different slips having dier'ent advertisements, as 24 and 25 thereon, the advertisements on the uppermost'holders 5 being always visible, those on the remaining holders below being covered by overlapping upper holders, while all the labels are always visible on the lower portion of the holders which extend down beyond the next adjacent upper holders. i

In practical use the advertisements of different lines of business are arranged on the holders and classified as may be desired with proper labels. Letter headings showing interestingcpublic buildings or institutions, may be placed on the uppermost holders instead of business advertisements. The directories may be hung on walls and others may be placed on desks in hotels,

n where they may be useful to travelers in readily finding `locations of leading business stores or factories, or professional men whose place of'business` it maybe desired to visit. The different holders may be readily swung up to reveal the advertisements beneath them. Any advertisement may be displayed through a particular period oftime' and then be displaced by another advertisement, the classification label being changed accordingly if necessary. In case the directory is placed out doors the celluloid fronts protect the advertising from rain water, the overlapping holders readily shedding the Water and preventingthe water from entering the tops of the poolsotfs-A Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
