Description

-May 13, 1924.
1,493,811 E. J. FREWEN BUILDING AND BRICKS THEREFOR I Filed Nov. 25 1922 INVENTOR EDMOND JOSEPH PREWEN,
By his Attorneys,
STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMOND JOSEPH FREWEN, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
BUILDING AND BRICKS THEREFOR.
Application filed November 25, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMOND J OSEPH FRE- wnN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Terminus Chambers, 6 Holborn Viaduct, London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buildings and Bricks Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bricks formed 10 on one face with portions lying in different planes and also with a cross piece forming two internal cavities. The face of one brick interfits with a portion of the faces of two opposing bricks so that the cross piece in the brick in one row comes opposite the joints between two adjacent bricks in the opposite row.
According to one form of this invention a T shaped brick has a shallow stem and a cross piece, having two cavities. A wall made of two rows of such bricks is so disposed that the pieces separating the cavities in the bricks of one row are opposite to the joints between the bricks of another row.
T he ends or sides of the cross pieces and the stems may be grooved or dovetailed or rebated for the purposes of keying and/or fitting in mortar setting.
The accompanying drawings show walls and bricks made in accordance with this invention.
Figure 1 is a section of a wall composed Serial No. 603,336.
of two rows of T shaped bricks having shallow stems. Figure 2 is a section of a wall made of bricks having two shallow stems.
Referring to Figure l, the wall is constructed of two rows of T shaped bricks a having shallow stems b and cavities b, the piece 0 separating the cavities being opposite the joint d between the bricks of the other row.
Referring to Figure 2, the bricks a have cavities b and two shallow stems e e which stems, when the bricks are assembled form the equivalent of the stems 6 shown in the other bricks, resulting in the wall shown in this figure being equivalent to that shown in Figure 1. i
I claim as my invention:
1. A wall composed of two rows of bricks each having two cavities separated by a central cross piece, and having an elevation and a depression on one face, each cavity extending into the opposing elevation.
2. A wall composed of two rows of bricks each having two cavities separated by a central cross piece, and having two elevations on one face, the cavities extending into the elevations.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name this 16th day of November 1922.
EDMOND JOSEPH FREWEN.
