Be it known that we, RUDoLnTDn CLnN Brum, a citizen "of"Holland,"'residing1 at Duren, No. 39 Kreuzstrasse, Rhenish Prus- Printing Yarns; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willy enable others skilled in the art to which itv4 appertains to 4make and use the same.
This invention relates to an apparatus for printing yarns `of the kind with which the yarns are either wound in adjacent wind` ings around the solid impermeable peripheral wall of a drum or stretched `on a suitable impermeable table and then printed by a printing roller moved transversely with relation to the windings.
The invention has for its obj ect to provide an apparatus of the kind stated inwhich the surface of thev impermeable drum. or table is covered by a layer of small thickness which is permeable to the colour yet non-absorbent and which constitutes the supporting face for the yarn to be printed.
According to the invention, the permeable yet non-absorbent layer preferably consists of a metallic cloth which isappliedto the dum or table surface. This clothwforms an elastic bearing sheet for the yarn. and permits of a shockless working of the apparatus. l
The accompanying drawing illustrates, by way of example, `an embodiment of the subject-matter of the invention.
Fig. 1 is'a partial axial section of a yarn-` drum constructed in accordance with the invention, in combination with the printing and equalling rollers which are shown in end elevation;
Fig. 2 is a partial side elevation ofl the4 drum on an enlarged scale, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a `portion ofthe drum. The apparatus shown comprises, in general, a yarn-drum a, a printing roller b adapted to revolve inthe ordinary colour trough c and a plurality of equalling or spreading rollers (Z. j
The drum a has a solid peripheral wall byl Letters-Patent, isz- @f whicais primarily overed ,by an. filed 'cloth 'f ,around which is wrapped a cl`otlr-gi have the yarns 71, wound around it.
The printing roller b and the equalling These as well as thel jconsistingof a wire-fabricand d'esignedto v ers may be of any approved construction and, therefore, are not shown in the drawing.
j It will be seen that, with a drum of the described construction, the colour applied to the yarn t-by the printing roller b is allowedr topass inwardly to and through the permeable layer g so that also the side ofthe yarn bearing against 'said layerwill be moisteneddirectly by A the -colour applied, whereby Ia perfect colouring of vthe yarn Lthroughout and a uniform pattern as re gards the shade is obtained. At the same time, no colour will be wasted in as much as the same is subjected in the permeable yet non-absorbent layer g to an undulatory movement caused by a vacuum which is produced in the' operation of spreading the;
colourapplied, the said undulatory movement being so that the colour will follow the implement used to spread the colour applied. The waves or undulations extend frornthe outer surface of the layer of yarns L inwardly on to the ground or inner surl face of the layer g and then outwardly again on to the surface of the layer ofv yarnsy 7L. Owing to the possibility of the colour evading inwardly, a shifting of the colour I by theprinting roller over the yarnswill be prevented, so 'that the liability of colour lridges being` formed at the colour-streaks produced by the printing roller is mate-y rially reduced. Therefore, an intensive rubbing of the colour byspreaders forthe purpose of evenly colouring the-yarns throughout may eventuallybe dispensed with and v the spreading operation substituted Vby a rolling-out operation.
Having thus describedl our invention,
what we claim as new `and desire to secure 1. In an apparatus for printing yarns, a
solid impermeable yarn-carrier covered by a,
permeable yet non-absorbent layer of small` face for lthe yarns to be printed.
2. In van apparatus for printing yarns, a
a `metallie 10thi which is" permeable to the printing `Colour butlnonabsorbent and designed to form the supporting fage for the yarns to be printed. l'
3. In an apparatus ,tor printing ygns comprising 4a yarn-drum havinga solid im- Perimeeble penales@ Wall, the Determine@ @frikis wel 1 ,eine eovered by a permeable yet @market-e111@ am ai smal/1 thicknes designed to form the supporting face yfor the wares t@ 10e-painted- ,4H n an apparatus for printing yarns ,comprising a yarn-drum having a solid impermeable Peri beitel Wall, e permeable yet 'non-absorbent" metallic abrie n wrpped around the peripheral surface of the drum and tp constitute the supporting face forwthe yarns to be printed.
