v 1,992,990 v. A. H. KAHLER S PRINKLER HEAD Filed July 2'7. 1921 Patented May 6, 1924.
UITED SPRINKLER HEAD.
Application filed July 27,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VENICE A. H. KAH- man, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Pasadena, county of Los Angeles, and'State of California, have invented certain now and useful Improvements in Sprinkler Heads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention refers to sprinkler heads for sprinkling lawns and has for its object to provide a simplified device which can be more quickly and cheaply manufactured and which will give a side spray, or a spray of semi-circular form. It has been attempted to form sprinkler heads and to cast the hole or opening therein, but this is unsuccessful for the reason that they are rough and a broken spray is the result and it is necessary to so construct the device that the opening or outlet for such side spray can be milled quickly after the head is cast. My improved spray head is such that this can be done, and I have shown 011 the accompanying sheet of drawings a form of said invention, which is adapted to be 'mounted on the upper end of a vertical supply pipe. In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan View of the spray head for attachment to a vertical pipe; and
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View thereof.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the body of the device is of disc-like form with concaved central portion, 3, and a convened annular outer portion, 4, with an internally threaded shank portion, 5, for attachment to a supply pipe. Formed in the center of the concaved uppersurface, 3, is a stud, 6. A central bore from the inside of the body, as at 7, extends into the inner end of said stud. A slot, 8, is cut by a milling operation into the stud 6, until it intersects the hole 7, said slot being disposed at an angle 1921. Serial No. 487,827.
corresponding to the concavity of the central top part of said device. By reason of the concaved formation, it is possible to mill the slot on an, angle into the central open- It will be seen that the central bore is quickly made and the slot is quickly milled, thus giving perfectly smooth out-let passageways and throwing a smooth and unbroken side spray. In the form of the invention shown, the device can be moved into the milling machine in any position so far as the stud 6 and the central bore is concerned, as it makes no difference which side of said stud is slotted.
What I claim and desire to cover with Letters Patent is,'-
l. A sprinkler head of the character referred to comprising a body adapted to be screwed on to a supply head, and having a concaved top, a centrally disposed stud in said concaved top, a central bore being extended from the inside of the head into said stud, and a milled slot through one side of said stud, at an angle, to intersect with said central bore, whereby to provide an angularly disposed discharge slot.
2. A sprinkler head comprising a body member adapted to be screwed on to the end of a pipe and having a central bore through its outer end, said bore terminating in a slotv standing at an angle to the axis of said 75 bore, the outer surface of said body adjacent said slot being concaved whereby water forced through said head forms a fiat spray over the concaved portion of said head.
Signed at Los Angeles, Los Angeles county, California, this 19 day of July, 1;?21.
