To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHAnLns P. 'Anso'rr, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Allston, Boston, county of Suffolk, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Sanitary Seats for Closets, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts in each of the several vlews.

This invention relates to seats for closets of the type wherein provision is made keeping the seat at all times sterilized and disinfected by a constant sup ly and dissemination of a suitable disin ectant liquid to exposed portions of the seat. A principal object of the invention is to provide means for distributin and disseminating the dis-' infectant liqui that is adapted to insure at all times an adequate supply of the disinfectant' without attention except at infrequent intervals, and also of a character to prevent any likelihood of excessive dischar e of the disinfectant at any time beyond t e To this end the invention comprises a closet seat molded or cast of suitable material with a=multi-- plicit of relatively small openings in the top t ereof leadingto an interior'chamber or reservoir containin a substantial supply of disinfectant liqui and also equipped with wicks or like elements adapted to take up the disinfectant by capillary attraction and disseminating the same throu h said openings to the exposed areas of t e seat. The improved seat of m invention may be molded of material suc as known in the trade as bakelite or other suitable rubber or fibrous compositions, or it may be cast of metal, refer-ably selected for lightness and strengt such as aluminum, magnesium alloys or the like. The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will more fully appear from .the following detailed description taken in connection-with the accompanying drawings, and the dis-- for tively enlarged scale on line 3-3 of Figure 1.

This back portion may ave secured thereto or embedded therein metallic plates or arms 11 extending from -a suitable hinge connection 12 by which the seat may be secured in usual manner to the closet bowl 13. In accordance with my invention the seat is molded or cast of suitable material such as bakelite, rubber composition or light metal, preferably in one piece and with an interior chamber or reservoir 14 of substantial capacity, this reservoir or chamber space extending preferably substantially to the front extremities of the two

10, 10", and also extending through the'back portion 10 of the seat as indicated at 14*. This reservoir or chamber may be lined with a suitable metallic lining 15 which may be molded in the seat in case the seat is produced of bakelite or like vmoldable composition.

The walls of the seat, particularly the upper teenths inch and a multiplicity of relatively small holes are provided therein opening into the interior chamber, these holes preferably extend to the front extremities of the two sideportions and throughout the topsurface thereof, substantially to the point where the side portions merge into the back portion 10. These holes have fitted therein wicks 17 which extend down into the interior chamber, referably 'to the bottom thereof and with t eir upper ends extending nearly or'quite flush with the top of the seat. The tops of the holes 16 to which the upper ends of the wicks extend may be slightly enlarged as indicated at 16*, and the may if desired befilled' in over the tops- 0 the wicks so as to present a smooth continuous seat surface,

In use the isinfectant liquid L normally fills a substantial portion of the chamber 14 throughout the extent thereof and so that it is gradually taken up by the wicks '17 which may be so proportioned and devised with regardto the particular character, of-

the disinfectant used so that they will take .-up and disseminate to the exposed areas of the seat just enough of the disinfectant for kee ing the seat thoroughly sterilized and disinfected. If desired the disinfectant may be selected with a view to utilizing the de- "odorizing and germicidal properties of the vgpor thereof which will be gradually given 0 from the liquid as it is brought up to the exposed surfaces of the seat by the capillary attraction of the wicks. When the seat is not in use and is turned up, the liquid will run back into the reservoir portion 14, which being unperforated will revent the liquid from escaping by gravity. I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and, Itherefore desire the present em bodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.

Having described my invention,.what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
