Be it known that I, JAMES SCHoRNAoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, lin the, county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to power jacks, for automobiles, trucks, or other vehicles, and has particular reference to suchy a device which is an improvement upon the power jack disclosed in my application filed J' une 29th, 1923, serial No. 618,587. y
In my copending application I have shown a toothed wheel or gear secured to the rear wheel of an automobile, and this gear is arranged to engage with an inclined toothed lifting track. 1n the construction shown in my copending application, the toothed lifting track is stationary, when placed in position, and it is sometimes diiicult to properly locate the lifting tract, over the hole or the like, so that its teeth will engage the teeth of the gear carried by the wheel. To over-l come this disadvantage, I have provided the construction shown in the present application.
My present invention comprises generally a toothed lifting track which is vertically adjustable, so that it may be elevated to engagement with the gear carried by the wheel, when supported in proximity thereto, with means to raise and lower the lifting track. ln the accompanying drawings, forming' a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a toothed wheel or gear, which may be cup shaped, to it over the hubo of the rear wheel of an automobile. The support 10 further embodies a lower horizontal rail 13, connected by vertical struts 14, spaced as shown. The lowering portion 12 and the rail 13 converge downwardly and are united in an integral head 15, as shown. The elevating portion 11 and the rail 13 converge rearwardly and lead'into an integral head 16, which is forked, as shown. The support 10 is therefore preferably an integral structure.
The numeral 17 designates a base, provided near one end with a pair of upstanding apertured ears or knuckles 18, receiving the head 15 therebetween, these parts being pivotally connected by means of a pin 19 or the like. The support 10 is therefore pivotally mounted upon the base 17 to swing in a vertical plane with relation thereto.
The base 17 is provided at its rear end with a pair of upstanding apertured ears or knuckles 20, integral therewith, pivotallyl receiving trunnions 21, carried upon the ends of the block 22. This. block has an upstanding screw 23, preferably formed integral therewith. This screw carries an operating nut 24;. The 'screw 23 is slidable within a sleeve 25, carrying trunnions 26, which are pivoted within openings formed in the ends of the apertured hea-d 16.
In view of the foregoing description, it will be seen that the base 17 may be arranged in proximity to the wheel to be raised, and if the rail 10 does not engage the gear 5, this rail may be elevated by turning the nut 24 by a suitable wrench, which will elevate the rail, as is obvious.
It is to -be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size. and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, orthe scope subjoined claims.
