`IMPROVEMENTIN RINGS FOR BULLS NOSES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,2 I9, dated March 3l, 1874; applicatioiA filed August 2.*2, 1873.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HUBERT C. HART, of Unionville, county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement Pertaining to Rings for Bulls Noses, of which the following is a specification, reference beiing had to the accompanying drawings, in
which- Figure l is a view of a nose-ring with my improved needle attached. Fig. 2 is a view of the ring with 'the needle detached, and the two parts of the ring closed together and fastened. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the needle attached in another way.
In putting rings into the noses of bulls heretofore it has been the custom to rst burn the hole through the nose with a hot iron and then insert the ring, causing the animal great pain in the act of burning, and making it dicult to insert the ring afterward on account of the struggles of the animal. I have devised an improvement whereby the hole through the nose can be made with the least pain possible, and whereby the ring can be inserted at the same operation and without further trouble.
'The letters a and b indicate lthe two parts or sections of the ring hinged together at A.
The letter c indica-tes a needle, preferably ot' steel, with a sharp point and with a socket at the base, just fitting on the end of one of the sections a or b. This sharp needle is thrust through the nose of the bull, and at the same time the ring is drawn through the puncture. The needle is then taken olf, the two sections closed together and fastened by a screw, d, a tenon on the end of one of the sections fitting into a mortise in the end ofthe other section for that purpose. The head ofthe screw, when in, is about flush with the surface of the ring.
The needle, in the place of fit-tin g on the `Section, as shown in Fig. l, may have a tenon tting into the lnortise in the end of the mortised section, as shown in Fig. 3, and be held in by the screw.
I claim as my invention- The combination of a nose-rin g, made in two sections, a and b, with a removable needle, c, the whole substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
