FOUNTAIN BRUSH.
Application filed August 25, 1921.
water converge from a turbine motor, the
force of the two streams of water being neutralized as they come together upon the brush to avoid scratching or defacing the paint of the automobile. It is known that a stream of water directed forcibly upon an automobile body will loosen particles of mud and other foreign matter by sheer force and drive such particles over the painted surface of the vehicle thus often scratching the same. This is effectively obviated by the use of my invention. A further object is to provide a simple practical device of the kind .that is compact, cheap to manufacture and efficient in operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of thls application and in which Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through my improved fountain brush.
Fig. 2 is a section through the turbine motor and housing on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a turbine housing, circular in cross section and provided with the handle 2. The casing is pro vided with the Water intake pipe 3 adapted at its free end to make connection with a Serial No. 495,392.
water hose. The housing 1 is provided, further, with the nozzles 4, 5 that register with perforations in the housing at points more than 90 degrees apart about its periphery, said nozzles converging toward each other to throw meeting streams of Water upon the bristles 6 of the twisted wire shaft 7 that is secured to the tubular sleeve 8 that is made fast to and that rotates with the shaft 9 that rotates in a bearing 10 formed terminally of the brace bars 11 which bars are secured to the face plate-12 of the turbine housing, said housing being perforated for passage therethrough of the shaft 9 one end of which is seated in a depression formed in thehousing 1.
The turbine motor 1 is keyed to the shaft 9,
and receives the stream of water which comes through the intake pipe 3 and is driven thereby. From the turbine motor the water passes out through the nozzles 4, 5. In use the rotating bristles or brush head clean the vehicle of mud and other extraneous matter after the same has been softened by the water.
What is claimed is In a fountain brush, a circular turbine casing, a rotary shaft journaled through said casing, a turbine motor within said casing fast upon said shaft, a brush operatively connected to said shaft to rotate therewith, an intake pipe for said turbine casing having its delivery end opening directly upon said motor, and nozzles registering with said turbine casing, said nozzles being spaced apart about the casing periphery and converging toward each other and toward said brush whereby meeting streams of water are played upon said brush.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' WILLIAM DAI-ILSTRAND. lVitnesses:
ARTHUR J. TRIPP, HAROLD C. WHEELER.
