Description
Patented Apr. 15, 1&24.
WAL'QIjR S. TERHUNE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
MEDICINAL COMPOUND.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER S. TERHUNE,
M. D., citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and 5 State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicinal Compounds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a medicinal compound more especially designed for the treatment and elimination of gall stones, and it comprises the following enumerated ingredients in substantially the proportions specified:
Iii l Castor oil 1 ounce. Refined olive oil 3 ounces. Tincture of nux vomica drops. Essence of Wintergreen; drops. Oil of thyme 2 drops.
The recited ingredients are mixed together making a total of four ounces.
The preparation is to be taken on retiring to be followed by a Seidlitz powder in the morning.
While olive oil has been used in cases of gall stones and is of some efliciency alone, still it is known that often small particles of olive oil soap formed in the intestine are mistaken for the gall stones and undue credit is given to the oil. I have found that by an admixture of castor oil with the olive oil and the addition of the mix vomica an increasive peristaltic action is secured which greatly assists in the passage of the gall Application filed June 22, 1923. Serial No. 647,181.
stones into the intestine. The oil of thyme and essence of Wintergreen appear to have a specific action in aiding in the passage of the stones and also in greatly lessening the pain of such passage and the efiicacy of the mixture of oils and tincture of mu: vomica is greatly increased by the addition in the relative amounts stated of the oil of thyme and Wintergreen. In the compound as thus prepared each ingredient acts conjointly with the others to provide a composition having a specifically beneficial action for the elimination and passage of the gall stones.
The action of the remedy eliminates all pain in the passing of the hard and soft gall stones and the particles of sand-like substance.
I claim:
1. A remedy for gall stones comprising a body of vegetable oil, carrying oil of thyme, and tincture of mix vomica in medicinal proportions.
2. A remedy for gall stones comprising a 6 body of olive oil and a minor portion of castor oil, carrying oil of thyme, and tincture of nux vomica in quantities afiording medicinal amounts of the same, with proper amounts of the oils.
3. A remedy for gall stones comprising a body of olive oil, a minor portion or" castor oil, carrying oil of thyme, oil of Wintergreen, and tincture of nux vomica in quantities affording medicinal amounts of the same, with 7 proper amounts of the oils.
WALTER S. TERHUNE, M. D.
