INSULATIN BLCK AND ELECTRICAL PATENT OFFlCE.
" RAN ETES.
Application lei May f2s/,
honi, 'it fn'zffftg/ concern.' .mown that Ronnnfr H, MAclNnns, a subject of the King of ,Great Britain,
residing at Hamilton, in the county of Wentworth and vlfrmiince of Ontario, Canada, has invented certain new and useful Iniprovenients in Insulation Blocks and Elco trical Connecti for the Burners of Elem tric Ranges, `which the following is a specification. i
f invention relates to improvements in electric ranges and more particularly the electrical connections of the resistance wir ing or heating element to the lead wires 'i 1 connected with the source oi electricity, and consists essentially ol`- an insulation lalocl interposed hete/een two electric burners, provided 'with a pair of ribs between Which the lead wires are carried, each parallel With the adjacent sides of a burner and having' a plurality of transverse grooves for containing the terminals, and partitions interrupt ing said grooves and through which conductance rods are passed leading from one terminal to the other.
The principal object of the invention is to generally improve theconstruction of the electrical connections o-l electric ranges, at the saine time producing an ellicient, simple, and inexpensive device.
These, together with other objects may be attained by the construction, combination andv arrangement of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described,'illustrate l in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the specification hereunto annexed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a bottom view of the cover or top plate oli' a range showing the improved electrical connections, together with one burner, the other burner being removed; and,
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional elevation of Figure l taken on the line QWQ.
Similar reference characters refer ,4 to similar parts throughout both views.
The cover or top plate A of the range is formed to accoi'nnioda two electric burners ll which are disposed so that their top surfaces are substantially flush with the top sur- ;face ol the cover plate and supported h v a plurality of dope ling seats 2 integral. with said cover plate z Xsuitably arranged along the edges of n in which the burners incloscd. interposed between the two burners ll is the insulation block C which may he secured yto the bottom of the cover plate A. by the bolts 3, for example, and formed pir-elerahly of porcelain or other suitable insulation material. The outer edges ot this block are shaped to contorni to the contour or outline of the cover plate holes in which. are confined the burners B, and are preferably arrai'igfed in vertical allignin t with the edges of said holes. A pair or rilis are formed on the hlocl C, each being parallel 'with the 1burner 3 to which it adjacent and iirtersectingn these a plurality of transverse grooves 5. e grooves are however interrupted hy ions 3 vhieh or-cient to an extent lower the terminations of the ribs 4. Through these partitions are passed conductors in 'the torni of bolts 7 to the inner ends olf which are connected the lead Wires 8. To the dnposite endsrof the conductors 7 are connected. spring terminal lugs 9 which occupy the grooves 5 and tensionally engage the spring terminal lugs 'l0 which are secured 'to the burners B and connected to the resistance Wiring or heating element ll thereon. The. spring terminal lugs l0 occupy grooves l2 in the burner, as shown.
There has thas been provided a simple r'and ellieient device of the class described and for the purpose specified.
Having now folly described" my invention, what l claim. and desire to secure by Letters Patent, iszl. Inv combination, with the cover plate and electric burners of a range, an insula` tion block interposed between the burners, rifles formed on the block paralleling the buien-ns and intersected by grooves, partitions spanning said. grooves, electrical condoctors extending through said partitions, and terminals on the ends of said conducu tors nearest the burners and engaging; terminals on the burners, the opposite end of said conductors being connected to lead wires.
2. In combination with the cover plate and electric burners of arange, an insulation. liloclr interposed between the burners, a plu' A..lity of ribs arranged on the hloclr in parallel relation with the lonrners, electrical mindneior ntending through said ribs, and
terminals on the ends of said conductors gli and 'terminals 0pm ma and c com'iuctols being connected to ea Wires, and spmg termmas Secured to sfu-Cl burners :xml @maximally engaging; i'he formel im W i'tne` ses H. G. HURDEY, E. D. EARLL.
