TOOL FOR EMASCULATING AND TJLIIENG LAIVIES.
Application filed April 6,
To all inhom it may concern:
-Be it known that 'OBERT EDWARD PLUM- MER, a subject or" the King of Great Britain, and resident of Jack River, in the State of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, has invented an Improved Tool for Emasculating and Tailing Lambs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists of an improved,
tool of simple construction adapted for use in castrating lambs and cutting ofi their tails,
Briefly stated the tool comprises two arms pivoted together and formed with opposed jaws and one arm carries a double-edged blade (or two separate blades) with the edges projecting respectively inwardly and outwardly from said arm the former edge co-operating with the other arm for cutting off the la-mbs tail and the other edge being used for cutting the purse.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention and comprisegig. 1. a side elevation ,(partly in section) an Fig. 2, a plan of the tool.
Fig. 3. a section on line IHIH of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4, an end view of the jaws in closed position.
Fig 5. a plan of the lower jaw.
Refering to the drawings it will be seen that the tool is provided with two opposed jaws 1, 2, formed respectively on the ends of arms 3, 4: crossing each other at a common pivot 5 said arms having handles 6, 7, normally separated by a spring 8 The jaws project laterally as at 9 Figs, 2 and 5, beyond the arms and are dished as at 10 on their interior sides and also formed at their front edges (Figs. 1, 4 and 5) with teeth 11 to grip the testicles or cords the cupped jaw 1 being set at an angle.
The lower arm 3 between the jaw 1 and pivot 5 is formed with a vertical slot 12 to receive a blade 13 which is removably secured by screws 14 passed transversely through said arm, and the blade and the upper and lower edges 15, 16 of the latter project beyond the corresponding edges of said arm and are sharpened.
If preferred two separate blades may be fixed to the arm 3.
The upper edge 15 of the blade 18 co-acts with the lower edge of the upper arm a for cutting off the lambs tail and when the arms are pressed towards each other during 1921. Serial no. 459,004.
the cutting operation the edge 15 of the blade enters a slot 17 formed in the arm 4.
The handles of the tool are held close together with the jaws closed, by means of a keeper 18 linked to one handle 6 and adapted to engage a notch 19 in the other handle 7" and to prevent the operators hand slipping against the blade 16 the handle 6 is provided with a projecting guard 20.
in castrating operations the purse is slit by means of the sharpened edge 16 of the blade after which the jaws are inserted in the purse to grip and remove the testicles.
1 claim 1. tool for the purposes set forth, consisting of a pair of crossed arms pivoted together and formed with opposed terminal gripping jaws dished on their interior sides, one arm having fixed thereto between the 75 jaw and pivot an inwardly and outwardly projecting cutting blade extending longitudinally of the arm and having cutting edges on both extensions.
2. A tool for the purposes set forth, con-. so sist-ing of a pair of crossed arms pivoted together and terminating with opposed gripping jaws dished on their interior sides and formed along their front edges with teeth, one arm having a longitudinal slot 85 between its pivot and jaw to receive the inner edge of an inwardly and outwardly projecting cutting blade extending longitudinally of the arm.
3. A tool for the purposes set forth, conmi sisting of a pair of crossed arms pivoted together and formed with opposed terminal gripping jaws, one arm having fixed thereto between the jaw and pivot a sharpened blade secured in a slot formed longitudinally in said arm and projecting beyond both sides of the latter and adapted to enter a slot in the other arm when the arms are closed together.
4. An improved tool for the purposes set forth consisting of a pair of crossed arms pivoted together and formed with opposed terminal gripping jaws the lower arm being formed with a through slot, a double-edged blade secured in said slot by screws and projecting inwardly and outwardly beyond the top and bottom of said arm said inwardly projecting edge being housed in a slot in the upper arm when the tool is operated to close,
5. An improved tool for the purposes set forth consisting of a pair of crossed arms pivoted together and formed at one end with handles and at their other ends with opposed interio'rly dished jaws formed at the front edge with teeth, a double-edged blade fitted in a through slot formed in the lower arm and projecting inwardly and outwardly beyond its top and bottom, and a slot formed in its upper arm to house the inwardly projeotinq edge of said blade.
6. $-11 improved tool for the purposes set forth consisting of a pair of super-posed crossed .ai'ins pivoted together, with opposed terminal jaws the'lower jaw ofi'set at an angle and a double-edge blade detachably fixed to the lower arm between its jaw and 15 pivot With one edge of said blade projecting towards the upper arm to co-act therewith and the other edge projecting outwardly.
