Application filed August 27, 1921.
cles and lncinerators, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, comparatively inexpensive and eid cient garbage can or receptacle adapted for the reception of garbage and like refuse as it acc1 mulates and provided with means whereby the contents or" the can or receptacle may be incinerated at intervals to provide for the removal only of the ashes or dried residue when it is desired to empty the same; and Yfurthermore to provide in this connection means whereby tlies approaching the receptacle may be trapped and destroyed n` the course of incineration oithe contents oi the receptacle; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination ot parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompany drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view, and
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view ot a garbage receptacle embodying the invention.
Figure 5 is a pian view of the same.
The receptacle casing is preferably or' cylindrical form with a. spherically rounded bottom 11 having a suitable filler 12 or concrete or the like to form a. weight by which the receptacle while capable of rocking movement is prevented trom overturning and is normally held in an upright position, and the interior of the receptacle is divided by suitable partitions to form a garbage compartment 13 and a` combustion chamber or hre. box 14e directly beneath the garbage coinpartnient and occupying the lower portion of the casing with upright smoke flue 15 leading from the combustion chamber with a vent or outlet 16 at the upper end thereof in communication with the upper portion or' the garbage compartment.
Bemovably fitted upon the top of the cylindrical wall of the casing as by means of a slip joint is a cover 17 provided with laterally extending eyes 18 mounted upon parallel guides 19 constituting elements ot a bail :Serial No. 495,892.
or handle 2O which is pivoted as at 21 to the wall of the casing to the end that while the 1cover may be raised by sliding the eyes on the guide elements 19 to expose the upper end of the casing and the garbage compartment therein for the reception of garbage, the complete detachment or" the lid or cover is prevented. To expose'the entire top of the receptacle the lid or cover after being raised to the limit ot its movement on the guides 19 may be swung laterally by reason of the pivoting of the bail or handle.
lVithin the lid or cover which is of domed form as shown with a central opening 22 designed to ailord an outlet for smoke and other products of combustion, is arranged aV cage 23 having a bottom perforated wall 24: and having circuitous inlet passages 25 through which flies lighting upon the gauze wire or screen diaphragm 26 covering the neck or opening 22 may find accessto the cage, without, however, being permitted by reason of the'screen 24k from gaining access to the garbage Compartment.
ln practice as will be obvious the lid or cover may be raised from time to time to de posit garbage or waste materials in the receptacle 13 and at stated or preferred intervals paper or like combustible material may be introduced into the combustion chamber or tire box 14; through an opening fitted with a hinged door 27 and ignited for the purpose of incinerating the contents of the garbage compartment and obviously destroying flies which have accumulated in the cage 23, to the end that the interior of the receptacle may be cleansed from time to time by the discharge therefrom of the ash and dried residue of the incinerating processes.
Having described the invention what is lclaimed as new and useful iszviding a lire space and smoke flue spaceV within the casing, a screen located in theV upper portion of the casing and bridging the smoke Hue, a cover for the casing, a perorated plate carried by the cover and adapted to extend over the end of the casing and the ends of the garbage compartment and smoke flue therein, a cage located under the cover and mounted upon said plate, the
Y covenbeing provided at its centerl with an opening, a screen disposed over the opening, 5 and tortuous tubes passing through the screengand the top of the cage and; having Ytheir iower ends disposed above the plate,
said tubes adapted to serve asfmeans for permitting insects to enter the cage and the products of combustion and evaporation from the een to pass from under the cover.
In testimony whereof he ahxes his signature.
HENRYV P. FULLER.
