Be it known that I, Josnrrr Sienna, a citi zen of the Czechoslovakian Republic, residing at London, England, have invented. certain Improvements in Rock and like Drills (for which I have filed applications in Czechoslovakia on, Octoher 3rd, 1.921; Great Britain, July 25th, 1922; Germany, Septenr her 29th, i922; Ruinania, October 3rd, 1922), of which the following is a specilication.
The object of the present invention is to produce a locking lcvice whereby different screw-joined parts of rock and like t -ills can be effectively prevented llOfll becoming accidentally detached during the work, and the invention consists in the provision of a cylindrical block which is arranged in a cavity in one ol' the drill parts and which is feathered to the oth r part so as to be prevented from rotary displacement rela tive to the same, the block being divided transversely into two parts provided with interntieshing ratchet teeth 'ch allow the upper part of the hloclr to turned into a position in which it can he looked to the surrounding drill part and which prevent relative rotary displacement oi the diiierent elements after such locking.
Fig. l of the drawings represents a sectional side view of the device as used for locking the drill to the drill head.
Fig. 2 is an elevation at right angles to Fig. 1,
Fig. 8, a cross-section on the line X--X of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4, an end view on a smaller scale of the upper part of the block,
Fig. 5, a side view 01 the same part,
Fig. 6, a cross-section on the line Y-Y of Fig. 5,
Fig. 7 a side View of the lower part or" the block, and
Fig. 8, a cross-section on the line ZZ of Fig. 7.
The drill B has at one end a conical, screw-threaded plug C whereby it is secured to a corresponding socket formed in the drill head A- The latter has a cavity 1 above the plug 0 for the reception of the locking device. This consists of a cylindrical block which is divided, transversely of the axis, into two parts a and b. The lower part is formed with a shoulder 2 and with a feather 3 for the reception of which corresponding recesses 4 and 5 are made in the the slot i l of the head A.
and
and 7/ are recessed, any; two recesses =3 and 8 a crown of ratchet teeth formed. The eeth 7 of he lower p mesh with if l oi the upper p: but allow alive, right uiul, rotary displzu-cnient o. the two 1. T upper ii part Z) has also a transverse slot 10 through which to admit a locking oolt e which is passed through. a cor bonding slot in the drill heed it. A g e 9 is turned inside therecess 8 in which to receive the ends of a blade spring 13. This spring curved so as to bear against the bolt 0 which accoinniodates the spring in a notch 18. A re ccss 1G is made in the head A to receive the prismatic bolt head Diainetrically opposite the recess 16 there is a re if! 1 which to accommodate a split pie (Z which secures the bolt 0 in position. is the head 15 and the pin {Z do not project beyond the outer surface oi the l head, the latter will have no additional elements to hinder "it in its v-Jorlr. The block part b is forn'ied with two circumferential rowsoi drill holes 12 arranged so as to be accessible through Before the drill B is connected to the head A, the block a, Z) is placed in position on the plug C, whereupon the latter is screwed together with the olocl; into the head A. When a rigid connection has been i?- obtained, the block part b is adjusted by means of a wire or nail, inserted through the slot 1 1- into the apertures 12, so as to set the slot 10 in alignment with the slot 14:. The bolt can then be inserted and fastened by means of the split pin cl, whereupon the drill B will be effectively locked to the'drill head. As the bolt 0 is inserted, the spring 13 snaps into engagement with the notch 18 and will, while pressing the two parts of the block together, retain the bolt even if the pin cZ should happen to be detached. The slot 10 is slightly elongated to allow for slight diiferencos in the main connection and also to permit the upper part b to lock freely with the lower part a.
With a righ -hand screw-thread on the plug 0, the ratchet teeth 7 and 11 are set so as to oppose a left-hand movement of the lower block part when the upper block is locked to the drill head. If the plug thread is a left-hand one, the block teeth are reversed so as to oppose the right-hand niovenient. W hen all is connected only a slight upward niovtnient of the part 5 is allowed for so that no appreciable rotary displacement of the two block parts can take place in either direction.
It is evident that with the removal of the in d and the bolt 0 the two screw-joined arts B and Q are unlocked and can be taken apart in the usual manner.
The device, which is not atl'ected by the blows n the tool, can be easily litte into z i drill head without heir external shaoe. Although with a drill and a drill t 1 I -.-Y ne aseo. in any other altering shown in C0111 h ad, the device have to be screwed together.
1. A device for locking together two screwjoined parts of a rock or ii is crill, cornprising a cylindrical block divided UHDSVQYSQly into two parts and fitted in acavity in the female drill part, the lower part of the block I being feathered to the male drill part so to be prevented from rotary displacement relative to the latter, the adjoining faces of the block part being formed with interzneshing ratchet teeth preventing relative rotation in the unscrewing direction of the drill elements but allowing the top part to be turned in the opposite direction, a headed lock bolt, the top part of the block and the female part of the drill being slotted for the reception of said lock bolt, a split pin for fastening the bolt in looking position, the female drill part being recessed to accommodate the head and the split pin, a blade spring tted in the top part or" the block so as to bear against the inserted loci; bolt and press the block parts together, the lock bolt having a notch in which to receive the abutting part of the spring, and means for turning the top part of the block so as to admit the lock bolt after the drill parts have been screwed together.
2. A device for locking together two screwjoined parts or a rock or like drill, comprising a cylindrical block divided transversely into two parts and fitted in the cavity or" the female drill part, the lower block part being feathered to the male drill part so as to be prevented from rotary displacement relative to the latter, the adjoining faces of the block parts being formed with interineshing ratchet teeth preventing relative rotation in the unscrewing direction of the drill elements but allowing the top part to be turned in the opposite direction, a headed loch bolt, the top part or" the block and the female partof the drill being slotted for the reception of said lock bolt, a split pin for fastening the bolt in looking position, the female drill part being recessed to accommodate the bolt head and the split pin, a blade spring fitted in the top part of the block so as to bear against the inserted lock bolt and press the block parts together, the bolt having a notch in which to receive the abutting part of the spring, the top part of the block being provided with holes arranged so that they can be reached through the slot in the female drill part for turning said top part into position for adniitting the lock bolt after the drill parts have been screwed together.
