lZOlll or. floorof the car B and in order to close such spa'ceacross the entrance or door opening D, when the door A is in closed position, I provide the lower marginal portion of the door A, or more particularly that portion of the door which extends across the opening D, with the swinging flap or strip 12, said strip being shown in a raised position in Figure 4; in order to facilitate the travel of the door A within the housing H.

The outer vertical marginal portion of the door A is provided with an open recess or notch 14 which, when the door is in closed position receives an outstanding staple 15 carried by the jamb 16 of the opening D remote from the housing H. The outer vertical marginal portion of the door A carries a sliding bolt 17 of a conventional type which engages with said hasp 14 to maintain the door A in its closed position.

The outer portion of the door A or that portion which extends across the opening D when the door is in closed position, comprises an inwardly swinging section 18 which is hingedly connected as at 19 to the door A proper. When the section 18 is in its raised position it is maintained in such position by the sliding bolt 20 of a conventional type carried by the hinged marginal portion of the section 18 and which is engageable with a keeper 21 carried by the adjacent portion of the door A proper.

The inner marginal portion of the panel or wall 1 is cut away as at 22 to compensate for the thickness of the door A and particularly when said door is in closed position.

The outer wall of the housing H is provided at its lower marginal portion with a swinging panel or flap 23 normally maintained in closed position in a conventional manner by the sliding bolt 24 of any 0rdinary or preferred type. The panel or flap 23 provides means whereby access may be had within the lower portion of the housing H to sweep out therefrom grain or the like which may accumulate therein.

In the present embodiment of my invention the door A is disclosed as a type for use in connection with grain but it is to be understood that the door may be otherwise formed as the necessities of practice may prefer such as for use in connection with a stock car. v

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a sliding door constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and forthis reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim 1. In combination with a wall provided with an entrance opening, a housing associated with said wall at one side of and adjacent to the entrace opening, the end of the housing adjacent to the opening being open, a sliding door for said opening, said door be ing of a length materially in excess of the width ofthe opening, an end portion of the door being arranged at all times within the housing, said portion of the door being provided with hangers at longitudinally spaced points, a trackway within the housing with which the hangers engage for supporting the door in its entirety for sliding movement into either open or closed position with respect to the entrance opening, said door when closed being entirely confined within the housing, the portion of the door extending across the entrance opening when the door is in closed position comprising a section adapted to swing in a direction away from the wall to open a portion of the entrance opening when the door is in closed position, and means. for holding said section against swinging movement.

2. In combination with a wall provided with an entrance opening, a housing associated with said wall at one side of and adjacent to the entrance opening, the end of the housing adjacent to the opening being open, a sliding door for said opening, said door being of a length materially in excess of the width of the opening, an end portion of the door beingarranged at all times within the housing, said portion of the door being provided with hangers at longitudinally spaced points, a trackway within the housing with which the hangers engage for supporting the door in its entirety for sliding movement into either open or closed position with respect to the entrance opening, said door when closed being entirely confined within the housing, the portion of the door extending across the entrance opening when the door is in closed position comprising a section adapted to swing in a direction away from the wall to open a portion of the entrance opening when the door is in closed position, and coacting means carried by the swinging section and the door proper for holding said swinging section in closed position.

3.
