MATCH Application filed. July 5,
To @ZZ wlw/m, t may concern:
Be it known that l, EDITH Mann HAY LILLIAN TUrTs, of the city of Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada,
have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Match Strikers, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to an improvement in match strikers for the use of smokers and others, and the object of the invention is to provide means which may be carried upon the clothing of the user so as to be unobtrusive and yet readily accessible, and which, as the abrasive material thereon disintegrates and falls from the striker it cannot lie in the folds of the material and scratch or mar such articles as are usually carried in a wearers pocket.
My invention consists essentially of a patch or disc having an abrasive surface which is preferably attached to the lining of a garment as will be more fully described on the following specilication in which Fig. l is a view of my match striker.
Fig. 2 is a View showing a modification thereof.
Fig. 3 is a view looking edgewise of the striker as illustrated in F ig. 2, showing the manner in which, in this form it is attached to a garment.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parte in each figure.
Referring to Fig. l, the numeral l indicates a disc of canvas or other suitable material which is coated on one side with carb'orundum or emery or other abrasive powder, while the opposite side is coated with an adhesive for attaching the disc to the garment.
Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, the numeral 2 indicates a disc of thin metal having a plurality of tongues 3 projecting from its STRIKER.
1922. serial No. 572,785.
periphery, which tongues are bent at right angles to the disc to form a plurality of clips by which the disc may be attached to the cloth of a garment by elinching same as indicated by the dotted lines as at 2, see Fig. 3. 5 indicates a plurality of indentations preferably stamped to project upwards of the obverse side of the disc to form a roughened surface thereon.
rThe manner in which my invention will preferably be made use of is by attaching it to the lining of the left tab of a persons waistcoat, that it may be conveniently and quickly turned into position by the left hand and the match struck upon the disc with the right hand in the usual. manner.
lt will be seen that l have devised a simple and etlicient means of providing a striker` for matches which is conveniently carried, which is ready for instant use and cannot be lost or misplaced, and is at the saine time concealed from view when not in use.
W' hat l claim as my invention is:
l. A device of the character described comprising a disc of textile material having a coating of abrasive material on one side and means upon the opposite side for atcaching the disc to a garment.
2. A device of the character described comprising a disc of textile material havinga coating of abrasive material on one side and a coating of soluble adhesive on the other side for the purpose named.
3.1fis a new article of manufacture, a textile disc for attachment to a garuient and means upon the disc upon which matches may be struck.
Dated at Vancouver, B. C., Canada. this 14th day of June, 1922.
