ENGINE-GUOLENG FAN.
Application filed April To aZZ whom it may comer-n:
Be it known that we, Jose-r1: L. Bonny and Bonnie FnL'rs, citizens of the Uni ed States, residing at King City, in the county of Gentry, State a new and useful l'riissouri, have invented n r (j 1' an r" ningme- 00am, an, and
we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to cooling fans for internal combustion engines and has for its object to provide a fan of this character, which is carried by a casing and is driven through the medium of gearing and a shaft y from the crank shaft thereby providing a positive drive and a cooling fan which may be easily applied to an engine, and removed therefrom if so desired during cold weather.

providing a positive gear and shaft drive nt to Le driving of the fan by a belt which is a A further object is to provide a cooling fan for internal combustion engines and a drive for the same comprising aecasing which may be secured to the engine casing, said casing having rotatably mounted in bearings thereof a shaft, which shaft has gear connections to the engine drive siiaft and with the fan shaft.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as herelnafter'set forth,
shown in the drawings,
described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the pre be l ise embodiment the invention may within the scope of what is claimed,
without departing from the spirit of the invention.

ment by means of an adjusting screw 1921' Serial N0. 371,595.
which screw lock nuts 8 are threaded so that the screw 7 may be locked and held in any position to which it may have been moved. he upper end of the casing is provided with an opening 9, which opening is of sligh lv reator diameter than the worms 10 carried by the shaft 6, the increased diamter of the opening 9 when the bushing 11 is removed allowing the shaft 6 and its worms 10 to be placed in or removed from the chamber of the casing 4 as desired.
Secured to the sides of the casing l are casings 12, in bearings of which casings, a shaft 13 is rotatably mounted, on which shaft conventional form of fan 14 is secured. The chambers 15 of the casings 12 are in communication with the chamber of the casing 4 so that'lubricant which may be placed in the casing 4- may also fill the chain bore 15. The chambers 15 also form pockets for the reception of worm gears 16 and 17. The worm gear 16 being keyed or otherwise secured to the fan shaft 15 and meshing with the upper worm 10, carried by the shaft 6, while the worm gear 17 may be keyed or otherwise secured to the drive shaft 2 of the engine and in mesh with the lower worm 10 of the shaft 6.
it will be seen that as the shaft 2 rotates that the shaft 6 will also rotate for the reason that the worm gear 17 is in mesh with the worm 10 at the lower end of the shaft 6. Shaft 6 will cause the fan shaft 13 to rotate through the medium of the upper worm 10, which meshes with the worm gear 16-carried by the fan shaft, therefore it will be seen that a positive drive for the fan is provided which drive eliminates the use of the common fan belt now in use which becomes worn, slips and at times break. it will also be seen that to remove the fan from the engine it will only be necessary to disconnect the brackets 3, then remove the casing 12.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A cooling fan being provided with a horizontally disposed shaft, said shaft rotatably mounted in bearings of a segmentally shaped casing, a rotatable shaft rotatably mounted in a second segmentally shaped casing, a vertically disposed shaft rotatably mounted in bearings of a vertically disposed casing, the rotatable shafts carried by the segment- .ally shaped casings and provided withgear 10 posed shaft thereby ing, anti-frictional means for supporting the ends of the vertically disposed shaft adjusting means cooperating with one end of a vertically disposed shaft and forming means whereby Wear may be taken up, the upper anti-frictional hearing being disposed in an opening in the casing; of greater size than the gears carried by the vertically disallowing shaft and
