JOHN ANDREW MCKAY, OF NEVI YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO GENERAL ELECTRIC COM- PANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
TERMINAL MEMBER.
Application led October 25, 1919.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ANDREW MC- KAY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of New York city, in the county 6 oi" New York and State of New York, have inven-ted certa-in new and useful Improve ments in Terminal Members, of which the following is a specication.
The present invention relates generally to terminal members and has for its object the manufacture of a standard or universal means of securing contact in connection with portable fittings such as wall brackets, fans, vacuum cleaners, lamps and of guarding the person handling it against accidental contact with the live members of the device.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is disclosed in several concrete and preferred forms in which- Fig. 1 is a sectional View of a terminal member on line 1--1 of Fig. 2 showing one form of the invention:
F ig. 2 is a View in elevation of the member shown in Fig. 1 looking in the direction of arrow Q of Fig. 1, parts being removed,
broken away and in sections:
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the .line 3--3 of Fig. 4 showing a modified form of the i11- vention: and
Fig. 4 is a view in elevation looking in the direction of arrow' 4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, 1 indicates a carrying member having a rear wall 2 and side wall 3. 4 are the contacts carried by a head 5 of insulating material having a recessed por-tion 6 for the reception of binding posts T and a central aperture 8 through which wires may be conducted from said binding posts and through opening 9 in the 4o rear wall. A plate 10 of insulating material covers the recessed portion. Each contact 4 Serial No. 333,387.
with a wire conduit 17 and two wings 18 projecting downwardly. 19 indicates a backplate of insulatinv material secured by means of screws 2O to the head.
It will be seen that in both forms of the invention the operator may grasp the side and rear wall of the structure without danger of accidentally touching the contacts. It has especial utility in connection with wall-brackets, base plugs and other devices employing electrical contacts.
1 claim:
1. A terminal member comprising a hollow carrying means, ahead of insulating material having end trunnions pivotally secured within said carrying means and provided with transverse recesses and wire conduit, a plate detachably connected to said head over said recesses, and contact members having binding posts disposed within said transverse recesses of said head.
2. A terminal member comprising a head of insulating material provided Withrend wings and transverse recesses, a. back plate secured to said head over said recesses and said wings, and contact members having binding posts located in said transverse recesses of said head. j
Signed at New York city, in the. county of New York and State ot New York, this 22nd day ot' October, A. D. 1919.
