useful Improvements in Floor Cranes, of
which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to floor cranes, and the object of the invention is the construction of a simple and eiiicient ioor crane that comprises a minimum number of parts and which is durable, as well as easy to operate.
Another object of the invention is the simplification and improvement of the licor crane disclosed in my prior United States Patent, No. 1,333,200, patented March 9, 1920.
lith these and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements o'f parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a Hoor crane constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a front view of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional View, taken on line 3-3, Fig. 1, and looking in the direc` tion of the arrows.
Fivure 4. is a view in elevation of the standard structure only.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the wheeled platform of my apparatus carrying the standard 2 and its cooperating parts. The standard 2 is curved at its upper end so as to produce an overhanging, upper end 3. The lower end of standard 2 is integral with base plate 4, which plate 4 is attached to the wheeled platform 1 by suitable fastening means such as bolts 5.
Integral with the lower portion of the standard is a horizontal arm 6, which arm (5 is provided with a bearing 7, in which bearing 7 is journalled the worm 8, which worm S is rotated by means of handle 9. A vertical reinforcing web 10 is integral with standard 2 and the arm 6, and a vertical reinforcing rib 11 is integral with web 10 and arm 6, for strengthenig the structure; the reinforcing rib 11 is positioned at right-anglesto theweb 10, and is connectedl y at its lower end to base plate it and at its upper end to arm 6.
A lower reinforced bearing 12 is integral with the standard 2 immediately above arm Journalled in bearing 12 is drum 13, and Y secured at one end of drum 18 is worm gear H; worm gea-r 14 meshes with worm 8, whereby, when handle 9 is rotated, the drum 13 will be operated to wind, or unwind tlie rope or cable 15, at the will of the operator.
An intermediate reinforced bearing 16 is formed' integral with the standard 2, and journalled upon bearing v16 is pulley or flanged roller 17, over which the rope or cable 15 passes.
Upper bearing 1S carries pulley 20, over which the rope or cable 15 travels. Eye bolt 21 is fastened to the outer, overhanging end 3 of standard 2, and rope or cable 15 is fastened at one end of the eye Ybolt 21, said rope or cable being passed around pulley 22, which pulley carries the hook 23.
In operation the operator rotates handle 9 for winding the rope or cable 15 upon drum 13, or by reversing the movement of the handle, tlie rope or cable can be unwound, hence, letting hook 23 be lowered to the position for attachment to the loa-d to be lifted and conveyed by the apparatus. lVhen the operator stops rotating the handle 9, the worm gear will stop rotating, thus locking the drum against rotation.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, and have illustrated the saine in the accompanyingdrawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention' relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lVhat l claim is:
A iioor crane comprising a base, a standard riojid upon said base and extending up-V wardly and having its, upper end portion curved to providean overhanging upper end portion, bearings extending from opposite sides of the lower portion of said standard, a
drum positioned between said bearings andl having a shaft rotatably mounted in said bearings and extending beyond one of the bearings, a worm gear carried by the extended end of the shaft of said drum, a web ex` tending from the lower portion of said standard, arms extending from said Web and terminating in bearings positioned beneath said worm gear, a drive shaft rotatably mounted in the lower bearings, a Worm carried by said drive shaft between the lower bearings and engaging said Worm gear to rotate Said drum When the drive shaft is turned, a depending eye at the up- 10 perv free end of said standard, guiding pulleys carried by Said standard at points intermediate its length, a cable Wound upon Suid drum und carried upwardly in engagement with the guide pulleys and connected with said eye, and a hook carrying pulley block upon said cable between the eye and first guide pulley.
In testimony whereof hereunto affix my signature.
WILLIAM R. BEATTY.
