HETTICK, OF MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA.
ITECKBAND.
Application filed June 11, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fnnn M. Woons a citizen of the United States, residing at Muskogee, in the county of Muskogee and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Neckband, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in neck bands for shirts, and it is the primary object of the invention to provide a neck band of a novel construction to insure the neck of the shirt conforming to the contour of the shoulders of the wearer to eliminate any possibility of the neck band and collar associated therewith, separating, while in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a neck band of this character wherein the button-holes thereof lie in the same plane, when the neck band is in use, thus insuring against wrinkling of the neck band, and insuring an equal distribution of the strain throughout the neck band while the same is in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a fragmental view of the upper portion of a shirt showing the neck band as applied.
Figure 2 illustrates an elevational view of a neck band in its extended form, the neck band being partly broken away to illustrate the interior construction of the band.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the inner ply of the neck band, which has connection with the outer ply 6, by the line of stitching indicated at 7 and which is formed adjacent to the upper edge of the band.
The upper edge of the body portion of the neck band is curved downwardly as at 8, the curved portion being directly over the button-hole 9 which is formed in the Serial No. 388,301.
outer ply of the band, and as shown, portions on opposite ends of the curved portion 8 extend upwardly as at 10, the edge being curved downwardly as at 11, adjacent to the ends thereof.
The lower edge of the neck band is disposed in parallel relation with the upper edge to provide the curved portions 12, which form the sides of the neck band when the neck band is attached to a shirt and in use. Thus it will be seen that the curved portions 12 provide clearances for the neck of the wearer, so that the neck band will not bulge or become displaced from under the collar associated therewith.
Secured to the inner ply adjacent to the button-hole 9, is a strip of relatively heavy material indicated at 13, which strengthens the band around the button-hole 9 to prevent tearing of the button-hole, to render the neck band useless.
Formed in the band adjacent to the respective ends thereof, is a button-hole indicated at 14:, and from an inspection of Figure 2 of the drawing, it is obvious that the button-holes are in substantially the same horizontal plane, to the end that strain directed to the band when the same is in use, is evenly distributed throughout the length of the band.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the intermediate portion of the upper edge lies in a line connecting the ends of the body portion at points adjacent to the upper edge thereof, the lower edge of the body por tion being curved downwardly from the ends of the body portion and upwardly at points in line with the body portion adjacent to the lower edge thereof, and providing a neckband that will conform to the curvatures of the shoulders and neck of the user to insure against buckling of the neckband.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a neckband, strips of cloth material sewed together at the edges thereof, to provide a body portion, said body portion having button-holes at the ends thereof and having a button-hole disposed intermediate the ends of the body portion, the upper edge of the body portion being curved upwardly at points between the central button-hole and the button-holes at the ends of the body portion, the central portion of the upper In testimony that I claim the foregoing as edge lying in a line connecting the upper my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature edge of the body portion at the ends of the in the presence of two- Witnesses. body portion, the lower edge of the body portion being curved downwardly from the FRED WOODS ends thereof, and continued in a line in sub- Witnesses: V stantially parallel relation with the upper I. C. DUCKWORTH,
edge of the neck band. F. ScRUeGs.
