ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 19, 1 924.

Application 111 a March 22, 1923. Serial No. 5353 9.
To all whom itmay concern:
- 13s it known that IQ'WILILIAM GBIESBACH a citizen 'of'the United States of America,
residing at Greenfield, county of Franklin,
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have .in-
vented certain new and useful Improves ments in-Label Holders of which lowing is a specification;
This invention relates to improvements in devices for holding and retaining" a r label inplace for-the purpose of ind-icating'the the folname of anrarticle and the: price of'the same This' has :beenv found objectionable as the label oftentimes loosens "or becomes fully detached from the glass; leaving the container'with'out any means of indicating'its contents or the "price, and also'deaEving the surface of the'glass smeared or covered with paste or glue, which i's unsightly and detract-s fromthe salabilitv of the article.
The present invention, is therefore, designed to overcome these objections and to provide a label holding devicethat is neat in appearance, one that can be readily'attached 'to' and removed from the receptacle, one-that will maintain "the label clean and free from 'contact" with the hand ofthe userofthe' receptacle and one'lthat can be readily changed and another substituted, if necessary.
Broadly, my improvement comprises a member having oppositely located folded edgesfor receiving the oppositely located edges of the label and means connected to the label receiving member for retaining the ,member in place and attached to the recep-.
tacle, said means comprising in general sharpened or pointed ends which will embed themselves in the wooden part of the casing, and a spring actuated bar for exerting sufiicient pressure at the ends of the label receiving member to retain the member in place and yet permit the label receiving membe to be adily remov ceptacle or container. 5 Referring to the drawings:

V The-opposite Tsides ofthe door of thecon- .tainer'are indicated at 1 and 2 and 3 ind-iacates'rithe door as a whole which is hinged at its bottom edge 'to the container indicated at 4:. This doorris provided with a 4 glass front 5 through: which the articles be- :ing offered forsale may .be-zreadily observed. I "ll-hearticles are conventionally indicated by the dotted line .6; Extending along the innerisurfaces o-f'theoppositesides 1 and "2 ofthe door are strips of wood? andS. 9
designates as awhole the memberwhich rei 1 ceives :the label; This member as shown is formed with the oppositely located folded edges '10 and 11 to form a ohannelinto which the label indicated at 12 may he slipped or inserted. The left hand end of the member .9 is oflset or bent inward, indicated at 13 and its end is formed with sharpened teeth or projections 14 for engaging the strip of wood 7. Located at the right hand end of the member 9 is a spring actuated and slidable bar 15 which slides through the up wardly extending portions 16 and 17. The
bar 15 is formed with an end or finger part 18 for operating the same The opposite or outer end of the bar 15 is provided with an enlarged head portion 19 which is also ing the strip of WOOd 8.
formed with sharpened'teeth 20 forengrig- V A spring 21 is looselylocated uponthe bar 15 and extends between the upwardly extending part1?v and thehead 19, as shownin Fig. 3.
The device is applied or attached tothe 7 inside of the door 3 by the operator graspreleases his hold on the part 18 the spring 21 will force the sharpened teeth 14 and 20 into the wooden strips 7 and 8 a suilicient f'depthj to retain the member 9 in place.
It is to be understood that the label or card bearing the name of the article contained inthe receptacle and the price of the same is first insertedor slipped into the part 9 as shown in Fig. 6. This device therefore permits the-label to be readily attached to the container and at the same time. per-' nianently retained by itfiin place so that it cannot become detached, or soiled, when the 1 door '5 is opened 1 From this-description it will be seen that the label holding device may be readily attached to and removed from the door and a new label substituted when desired, *or
"necessary, and one that will not become detached or disarranged When in use. 7
The purchaser can readily determine the V "member having a U-shaped channel for receiving and retaining the label, a spring contents of the box as well as the priceof the articles contained therein." The parts 16 "Kend l? may be formed as axstrvck up portion of the part 9 or they may be at Qtached tolaseparate bar or base 22 and secured to the part 9 by soldering.
What I claim is f 1..A device for the purpose described comprising a member formed with turned' over edges'to provide-a channel for receiv- 111g a'label, said member having 1ts opposite j ends provided 'withsharpened serrations or teeth-like structures which will serve to retain'the dev1ceinplace, means comprising aspring" actuated bar locatedat one end of the device for exerting pressure on {sheepposite ends of the device for causing the teeth to engage the inner sides of a con-. tainer for retaining the same in place.
2. A device for :the purpose described, comprising a member having a channel like portion into which a label or the like may be slipped, StiCl1l16mb61 having one end formed with serrations or sharpened points, the other end "of the member having a slid- -able bar attached thereto, a spring on the bar for forcing the same against the. inner sides of the containenywhereby the device as a whole may be retained in place by the action of the spring.
3; A label device for the purpose described comprising a channel like member j designed to detachably receive 'a'label on which is displayed the contents of the :re-
ceptacle and the price of the articlescontained therein, and :which may be slipped into the end of said 'member, one end of the member having-serrations, a slidable bar at V V tached to the member, said bar having a' portion at one end for operating the same and a sharpened or teeth likeportion at its opposite end, a spring for forcing the,
sharpened portions of the deviceagainst the inner sides of the container whereby the de- "vice as a whole isretained'in place 'and'may be removed by withdrawing the spring actuated bar as described for removing and V inserting a new-label.
A. A label receiving device comprising a actuated'device attached to said member in parallel relation thereto for retaining the ceiving a label, the opposite ends of the device 'having serrations for engaging the inner opposite sides ofthe door on which the device 1 is designed n to be placed, and
