IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR CHECKING HORSES.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 148,383., dated Marrh 10, 1874; application filed September 6, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN R. BAY, of O0- lumbus, in the county of Hickman and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Device for Checking Horses, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view. Fig. 2 is a side view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the hames of a harness, which are of ordinary construction. B B are two bridle check-rein pulleys, and O is a pulley for a hand-rein. These pulleys are made in one piece, having through their center a shaft, D. The ends of the shafts are made fast to the hames, reaching from one side to the other, as seen in the drawing, with the pulleys revolving thereon; but the pulleys may be fast on the shaft, and the latter be allowed to revolve on the hames. The check-reins of the bridle are attached, in any suitable manner,
' with the saddle or back strap by means of a frame fastened thereto, and supported by straps,in any suitable manner, so as-toreir der the device effective for the purpose.
I do not, therefore, confine myself to this precise number of pulleys, nor to this particular arrangement.
7 Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The winding-pulley G and the check-rein pulleys B B, fixed upon a shaft journaled in the hames, substantially as and for the purpose described.
