UNITED STATES PATENT Orr-Ion WILLIAM H. BOWERHAN, on BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN KNIFE AND FORK SCOURERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,348, dated March 10, 1874; application filed February 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. BOWER= HAN, of Brooklyn, in thecounty of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Knife and Fork Scourer and Polisher, of which the following is a speci= fioation:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved scourer and polisher, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts;
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved instrument for scouring and polishing knives and forks, which will enable the work to be done better and quicker than when the ordinary means are used. The invention consists in an improved instrument for scouring and polishing knives and forks, formed by the combination of the lead or other softmetal plate with the head of the handle, made with a flat lower side, an inclined forward end, and a rounded projection upon its top, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the handle, the forward part or head of which is made flat upon its lower side, with its forward end inclined upward, and with a rounded projection upon the upper side of its forward end, as shown in Fig. 1. B is a lead or other soft-metal plate, the rear end of which is bent upward, and is secured by a screw to the rear end of the head of the handle A; The lead plate 13 is fitted to the flat bottom, inclined end, and rounded projection of the handle A, and its upper end is secured to the rear side of said rounded projection by a screw.
The scouring and polishing is done with scouring-brick by rubbing it upon the knives and forks with the instrument A B. The flat part of the instrument is used for scouring and polishing the knives, and the rounded top projection for the forks, its form enabling it to readily enter and follow the curves of the forks, so as to operate upon their entire surface. When thus used, the grains of brick dust embed themselves in the lead plate B, and are thus held so as to operate more et fectively upon the article to be scoured and polished.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters Patent An improved instrument for scouring and polishing knives and forks, formed by the combination of the lead or other soft-metal plate B with the head of the handle A, made with a flat lower side, an inclined forwardend, and a rounded projection on its top, substan tially as herein shown and described.
