This improved-stock regulator is provided 'f with a pulp box l having therein an auxiliary chamber 2 provided with an inlet opening 3 and having communication with the interior of the pulp box 1 through an opening controlled by a gate 4. rPhe pulp in the fpulp box 1 is to pass out ythrough ak passage in the front wall of the "pulp box and through a discharge pipe 5. This discharge pipe 5 is rectangular in cross section and adjacent its free end has itsbottom wall eut short to provide a discharge passage 6 through which the pulp may pass into the depending -spout 7 'which is secured to the free end portion of this pipe 5. This pipe 5 is provided in its upper wall with a ,passage 8 through whicheXtends a gate 9 yand within the pipe 5 :against the side walls thereof, there has been provided guide strips 10 'so that movement of the gate 9 will be controlled. It will be readily seen that as the pulp passes through the discharge openings 16, it will strike the hood 18 and will drop directly :into the bucket 17 upon the mass of pulp already in the bucket.
This bucket is to be suspended so that it may have vertical movement in case the quantity of pulp in the bucket should vary and the gate 9 is to be connected with the structure for mounting the bucket so that as the bucket moves vertically, the gate 9 may be moved towards an open or a closed position. The gate moves to an open position when the quantity of pulp is reduced beyond the normal amount so that more pulp can pass into the bucket than under normal conditions and the gate is to move towards a closing position so as to reduce the quantity of pulp passing through the spout 7 in case the bucket contains more than the normal amount of pulp. This bucket 17 is provided with hanger bars 20 which are secured to the bucket 17 adjacent its upper end and extend upwardly and are provided at their upper ends with bearing eyes 21 which extend between the hinged ears 22 at the forward end of the lever arms 23 and are secured by pivot pins 24 at the ends of the cross bar 25 which extends between the forward ends of the lever arms. This cross bar which serves to pivotally connect the hanger arms 20 with the lever arms 23 is provided intermediate its length with a passage 26 through which extends the threaded stem 27. This stem 27 is loosely connected with the gate 9 as shown at 28 and carries nuts 29 for engaging the upper and lower faces of the cross bar 25 and securely but adj ustably holding the stem in a desired position with the gate 9 open the desired amount. It will thus be seen that the gate may be set at the proper point to permit a predetermined amount of pulp `to normally feed through the pipe 5 into the spout 7 and retain the pulp in the bucket 17 at the normal level. The lever arms 23 are carried by a shaft 30 which is journalled in bearings 31 carried by the pulp box 1 and these arms extend rearwardly over the pulp box and carry weights 32 which are adjustable upon the arms so that they can exert the desired amount of leverage. It has been found that the hanger means cannot be properly adj usted by means of the weights 32 alone and therefore there has been provided a handle bar 33 which carries an adjustable weight 34 and in addition to the handle bar, there has also been provided a mast formed by bars 35 which extend upwardly in converging relation from the shaft 30 and have their upper ends connected by a pin '36 which carries a block 37. This block 37 which is loose upon -the pin 36 carries a cable 38 which extends rearwardly and over the pulley wheel 39 carried by the support 40. A weight 41 is carried by this cable 38. lt will thus be seen that the bucket 17 will be normally retained in a desired position and that vertical movement of the bucket will be controlled by the weights 32, 34 and 41. The leverage exerted by the weight 41 cannot be changed but the leverage exerted by the weights 32 and 34 can be changed by adjusting these weights upon the arms 23 and ln order to control passage of the pulp out of the pulp bucket 17, there has been provided an outlet spout having an upper bucket engaging section 42 and a lower section 42 which are secured together by bolts 43. The upper section 42 is reduced to provide a seat 44 in which is slidably mounted a gate 45 which extends between the forward portions of the two sect-ions 42 and 42l and has its outer end portions provided with a depending fork portion 46 which engages an annular groove formed in the hub 47 of the adjusting wheel 48. This wheel 4S is mounted upon the threaded stem 49 which extends from the lower section 42 and it will be readily seen that when the wheel is rotated7 the gate may be moved towards an open position or touf'ards a closed position. A neck 5() is carried by the lower section of the collar formed by the two sections and extends downwardly into a pipe 51 through which the pulp will pass to the paper machine. The pulp can therefore pass freely into this pipe 51.
When in use, the pulp passes from the pulp box 1 through the pipe 5 and beneath the gate 9. After passing beneath the gate 9, the pulp moves the apron 14 to an open position and drops down through the spout 7 until it strikes the bottom or head 15 of this spout. The pulp then vpasses out through the discharge head 15 and down into the pulp bucket which will be filled to the normal capacity. This normal capacity in the present illustration is indicated at 52 but it will be understood that the normal capacity may vary. By turning the hand wheel 38, the gate 45 may be opened the desired amount so that the pulp may pass through the neck 50 and down into the pipe 51 through which it will pass to the paper forming machine. As the pulp flows out. of the bucket. it will be replenished by the pulp flowing spout 7. lf the pulp flows into the bucket at a slower rate of speed than it passes out through the gate, the amount of pulp in the bucket will decrease beyond the. normal amount and therefore the weight will be reduced. The weights 32,34 and 41 will then cause the bucket to move upwardly and as this bucket moves upwardly, the gate 9 will move upwardly to permit an additional amount of pulp to pass through the spout 7 into the same through the ,.I..

"I claim:
1..In a structure of .the character destuff box having a depending spout, a gate in the pipe slidable upwardly to an open position, a pulp bucket positioned about the lower portion of the spout and having an outlet in its lower portion and a control for the outlet, the spout having its lower end closed and provided with side openings, a splash hood secured about the lower portion of said spout to direct pulp passing through the side openings downwardly into the bucket, and means for suspending the bucket for vertical movement and imparting movement to the gate of the outlet spout as the bucket moves.
2. The structure of claim l having the bucket provided with an open lower end, a collar secured about the open lower end of the bucket and having an upper bucket engaging section and a lower section secured to the upper section, the sections having registering central openings, a closure plate slidable between said sections, a' threaded stem extending from the lower section, a hand wheel upon said stem having a hub extension engaged by said closure plate whereby rotation of said wheel may impart sliding` movement to the closure plate.
3. In a structure of the character described, a stuii` box, an outlet pipe for the stuft' box having a depending spout, a gate in the pipe slidable upwardly to an open position, a pulp bucket positioned about the lower portion of the spout and having an outlet in its lower portion and a control for the outlet, hanger arms extending upwardly from the bucket, a rotatably mounted rocker shaft, lever arms carried by the rocker shaft, a cross bar extending between the lever arms and pivotally connecting the hanger arms with the same, a threaded stem pivotally connected with said gate and adjustably held in engagement with the cross bar, weights adjustably carried by the lever arms, crane arms extending upwardly from said rocker shaft, a support carried by said stui box and provided with a pulley wheel,

In a structure of the character described, a stuitI box having an outlet in one wall, an outlet pipe leading from said opening, a depending spout carried by the pipe and having a closed lower end and outlet openings in its walls adjacent the closed lower end, the outlet pipe having its under portion cut away to permit of communication with said spout, a pulp bucket positioned about the lower portion of said spout and having an outlet in its lower portion and a closure for the outlet, a hood secured to said spout above the outlets in the sides thereof and open at its lower end, the walls of the hood extending in spaced relation to the spout to a point below the lower end of the spout, means for suspending said bucket and permitting vertical movement, lvand a gate for controlling passage of pulp through the outlet pipe, said gate being operatively connected with said bucket, suspending means :tor movement into and out of a closed position as the bucket moves vertically. j

In a structure of the character described, a stui'l' box having an outlet in one wall, au outlet pipe leading from said opening, a depending spout carried by the pipe and having a closed lower end and outlet openings in its walls adjacent the closed lower end, the outlet pipe having its under portion out away to permit of communication with said spout, a gate slidable in the outlet spout and extending through the upper portion thereof, a pulp bucket positioned about the spout and having an outlet in its lower portion and a manually .controlled gate for the outlet, hanger means for the bucket permitting vertical movement of the bucket and including means for yieldably holding the` bucket against downward movement, andv means connecting the gate of the outlet pipe with thehanger means to cause opening and closing of the gate as the pulp bucket moves vertically.

In a structure of the character described, a stuft' box having an outlet in one wall, an outlet pipe leading from said opening, a gate in said pipe movable upwardly to an open position, a pulp bucket, movable means suspending the bucket below said pipe and connected with said gate to open and close the gate as the bucket moves vertically, a collar carried by the lower end portion of said bucket, a gate slidably carried by the collar and movable transversely thereof into and out of a closed position, and manually operated means for moving the last mentioned gate.

The structure of claim 8 having the collar provided with an upper bucket en? gaging section and a lower section connected with the upper section, the gate beingslidably mounted 'between said sections and eX- tendingexternally thereof, a threaded stem extending from one section, a hand wheel in threaded engagement with said stem, and means for engaging said wheel extending from said gate.
