To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen HARDY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Portneuf Station, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Regulators for Paper- Making Machines; and l do hereby declare that the following is a fulhclear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same.
The present invention relates to paper making machines, and more particularly to a device for regulating the flow of paste from the paste reservoir to the machine for forming the paste into paper. An object of the present invention is to provide a regu' 'lator which will automatically control the flow of paste from the paste container.
With the above and other objects 1n view which will hereinafter appear as the description continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings has been shown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but the right is hereby reserved to any changes, alterations or modifications to which re course may be had that come Within the scope of the'claims Without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the efliciency of the same.

As stated in the outset of the specification. it is the purpose of the invention to regu late the flow of this paste from the tank 1 to the reservoir 5 and to accomplish this object I provide a valve 8. This: valve s comprises two panels 9, and when these panels are in alinemont as better shown in dotted lines in the Fig. 3 of the drawing. The outlet opening is closed stopping; the fiow of paste from the reservoir, and when they are in a full line position, this outlet is opened and these two panels 9 are each pivotally mounted upon a shaft 10, the upper end of which extends through the elbow 5?; and terminated by an arntll. The valve 8 is automatically operated by a float 12 sus pended within the basin 5 so as to move in a vertical direction according to the specific gravity and height of the paste traveling through the basin 5. -Th1:'ough this valve (hfIl'l'l-t0llll1; means, it is obvious that when a lilate mixture of paste is flowing, from the reservoir l, into the till El ll l lltl lltl paste to basin '5, the float 12 will descend thereby opening the valve 8' permitting thisslight flow freely from the tank 1, but if the tank 1 is provided with a heavy paste, the Weight will cause the float 16 to rise, thereby moving the panels 9 so as to limit the flow of paste from the tank 1 to the paper making machine, sheets of paper of the same thickness will be made through the manufacture.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent is i g 1. The combination with a tank'having an outlet therein, of an elbow connected to said outlet, a pipe leading from said elbow, a
' vertically extending basin connected to the lower end of said pipe, a float mounted within said basin, a valve pivotally mounted within said elbow, a crank arm connected to said valve, and links connecting said crank arm with said float, whereby when the float is raised or lowered, said valve will be opened and closed substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination with a tank having an outlet pipe leading therefrom, a valve arranged within said outlet pipe, a basin secured to the outer end of said outlet pipe, a trough encircling the upper end of said basin, said trough having an outlet opening, a vertically movable float arranged within said basin, and means for connecting said float with said valve whereby when the float is raised and lowered said valve will be opened or closed.
3. The combination with a tank having an outlet pipe leading therefrom, a valve pivotally mounted within said outlet pipe, a vertically extending basin connected to said outlet pipe, the upper end of said basin be- GEORGE HARDY.
