Description

NITED STATES ATENT FFIGE.
JOHN MAYELL, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,078, dated March 3, 1874; application filed January 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MAYELL, a resi dent of the city of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have made an Improvement in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a speciication:
Figure l is a perspective view of my device, showing the bag attached thereon. Fig. 2 is a bottom view, and Fig. 3 a side perspective.
The same letters of reference are used in the designation of identical parts.
Letter A shows the hopper, which is made of Wood, and in the usual form. Letter L shows the device by which it is hung to the Wall, or to the delivering-spout; letter H, projecting lng for steadying the hopper in its position. Letters B B' designate two curved pieces of iron, with extending arms K K'. These arms are hinged to the hopper at O O'. The object of hinging the curved pieces B B' by the extending arms K K', at the points O O', is to allow of the contraction and eXpansion of the partial circle formed by said curved pieces, that various-sized bags may be attached thereto. This adjustment is controlled by the long lever I) and connecting-lever E, they being attached to the arms of the curved pieces at O O' by a loose joint, the necessary amount of play being allowed at this point to allow of the angular movement of the levers E D. At the outer end of the lever E a pin is placed, which projects into the slot P of the lever D7 the working' of said lever D controlling the lever E and curved piece B thereby. Placed upon the side of the hopper is the rack F,
which controls the backward movemergf the lever D, by means of projecting saw-weil), against which the lever catches when tightened up. Upon two sides of the hopper are four projecting lugs, G G, so placed that when the curved pieces B B are at their fullest throw they come against said lugs, holding the bag firmly thereby.
In using this device, the circle is contracted by throwing the lever D upward. The bag to be filled is then taken by the mouth and slipped over the curved pieces. The lever is then pressed downward, expanding the circle and griping the bag rmly. When the size of the bag is greater than the curved pieces will gripe and hold, the edges are put between said pieces B and the projecting lugs C, and firmly held thereby.
Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim, and want to secure by LettersA Patent, 1s
A bag-'h olding device, arranged as described, and consisting of the clamps B B', provided with the arms K K' and levers D E, in combination with the hopper A and lugs O C', substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN MAYELL.
