These operations in using my improved ro-ll roofing fasteners are'repeated for each courseof roll roofing laid. thus firmly fas-` tening down the upper edge portion of each lower or underneath course of roll roofing and clamping down the lower edge portion of 'each .upper or overlapping course of roll roofing.
By this construction 'the only part of the roll roo-fing that is penetrated throughrinto the roof boards is that part that comes under the overlapping portion of the next upper course of roll roofing, thereby eliminating` nails. which are f lriven'from the outside through both courses of roll rooting and cause the roof to leak. The upper fastening member 12 is sufficiently-long so as to take the place rof several. nails heretofore used for this purpose.
Having thus described my invention I claim as neW:-
1. 1n a roof construction and the like, overlapping strips of roll roofing, means for securing the roll roofing to the roof. consisting of roll roofing fasteners, each comprising under and upper fastening members, the under fastening member having a roll roofing and roof penetrating portion, a thin at body portion and a hook shaped portion with locking means on the hook and the upper fastening member being in the form of an elongated cleat and having means for locking it to the locking means on the hook shaped portion of the under fastening member, for the purpose as described.
Means for fastening overlapping strips of roll roofing to roofs, consisting of roll roofing fasteners each comprising under and upper fastening members, the under fastening member having an elongated thin body on one end of which is a pointed member adaptedto be driven through roll roofing and into roof boards and on the other end of the body a hook shaped member parallel With and spaced from the body member, said hook shaped member having locking means, the upper fastening member being in the form of an elongated cleat With locking means, said locking means on the under and upper fasteningv members being.

Means for fastening overlapping strips of roll roofing to roofs, consisting of roll roofing fasteners each comprising under and upper fastening members, the under fastening member having an elongated thin body A on one end of which is a nailing member and on the other end of the body a hook shaped` member having locking means in the form of a hump, the upper locking member being in the form of an elongated bowed cleat having a locking member in the form of a depression in the cleat for the hump on the hook of the under lfastening member, said upper fastening member f having under turned side edges and pointed members at` each end,` for the-purpose as described.
