To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BROR JOHANNES BENorssoN, a subject of the King of Sweden,
residing at Kallered, in the county of Groteborg and Bohus and Kingdom of Sweden, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Holders for Cleaning Needles'for vaporizing Burners or the like, of which the following is aspecification.
The present invention relates to. holders for cleaning needlesprovided to be used for the cleaning of the orifice of vaporizing burners and similar appliances and especially t such a holder which comprises a resilient double-shanked pincer like handle, one shank of said handle carrying the needle proper and the other shank serving as a guide for said needle when said shanks are mutually moved; I t
This invention has for its principal object to provide a holder of the type specified, which will be extraordinary effective to savo'the needle from lateral strains when in the operation for, cleaning the burner or the like. l
Another object of,theinventionisto provide means, which will enable the implement to be. easily applied upon the orifice ofthe burner in exact position for the cleaning purposes even in darkness and if the burner should be entirely clogged up by deposits or impurities.

According to the embodiments shown the holder comprises a resilient metal ribbon,
which is bent in the tor-meta U with the curved junction portion 1 of the U :widened annularly and. serving asa handle for the operator. From this curvedportion the substantially straight shanksQ and 3 extend substantially parallel when nonoperative and normally kept apart. from each other by meansof the resilient actionof the an nular portion 1; asshown in Fig, 1. The nonoperative upper 'end of the needle 12 in this position bears against the flanged edge 5 and by this means the displacement of the needle rearwards when forced through the clogged orifice 17 of the burner-nozzle 18 is prevented. The'groove 11 naturally also may be formed in the shank 2 instead of l the member 9 or both in the shank 2 and in the member 9. In an case however, the total width of the groove must be narrower than the thickness of the needle, so that the latter, when tightening the screw 10, will be firmly clamped on to the shank 2 and thus secured in place. V The operative end of the needle 12 projects into a narrow hole 13 in the shank 3, the said hole having practically the same width as the diameter of the needle. 7
On the underside of the shank 3' there is formed an annular cavity 20 disposed coaXially to the hole 13 and with substantially the same width as the outer diameter of the burner-nozzle to be cleaned, which nozzle is diagrammatically shown in the drawing and marked with the reference Fi ure 18.

As shown by Figures 1 and 2 the outer ends 24 and 25 of the, shanks 2 and 3 respectively are bent such that when the imple 'ment is kept in the position illustrated by Fig. 1 with the operative end of the needle .12 turneddownwardly, the said ends are positioned on a higher plane than the outer purpose eXplaned below. v
T o the shank 2 of the holder there is removably attached a casing 16' for spare needles. This casing 16, according to; the Figures 1, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 comprises a gutter-shaped member, the longitudinal edges 26 of which are bent down so as to form folds adapted to embrace the shank 2 as shown in Fig. 1. The bottom of said gutter is provided with a lower portion 27, which in both ends is finished by inclined planes 28, 29 with a suitable inclination, say some 45 degrees. The bottom portion 27 is crossed by a transverse beam 30 which is positioned as high above the bottom portion 27. that spare needles 12 may be positioned below the beam 30 with theirends-resting on the inclined surfaces 28, 29 respectively. These'spare needles can be removed off from the casing by being pushed against either needles influenced by their resilient ability further trouble.
The casing 16 is applied upon the shank 2. by pushing it. in from the down flanged narrower portion 5 of the shank 2 (see Fig.
'5) to the not flanged wider portion of the same shank, in which last mentioned portion the bent edges 26 partially embrace the shank2 (see Figures 1 and 6). When a spare needle is to be taken out off from the casing 16, the latter is removed from the shank 2 in the opposite way.
' The casing 16 may also be applied to the holder in any other convenient way for instance by means of a pin, which permits the rotation of the casing 16 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to a position, from which the needlesmay be freely removed. Such as embodiment, however, is not shown in the drawings, as'it is mentioned only to show that I do not want to limit myself to any special device for the spare needle casing. v
The operation of the device will now be explained.
When cleaning the orifice 17 of the burner nozzle 18 the implement with the shanks 2, 3 spaced apart from each other, so far ing the implement horizontally as indicated by the'arrow in Fig. 2 the fork-shaped portion 22 guides the implement such, that the cavity 20 is brought straight above the nozzle 18, which thereby enters the cavity 20. The hole 13 thus is easily placed centrally to the orifice 17 even if the latter should be clogged by impurities or deposits or if the cleaning operationis performed in darkness. The needle12 is now forced down into the orifice 17 by pressing the shank 2 downward against the shank 3 as shown in Fig. 2. During this operation the needle 12 is guided by the hole 13 and obtains thereby the required lateral support. The shank 2 during the same movement is guided by the tongue 6'1 and the slot 7 which take up any later al strains upon the shanks, and consequently the very thin and rather soft needle 12 will always maintain its linear and central ppsition in relation to the orifice 17 and not e bent or clogged against the wall of the hole 13. I
If the burner is lighted during the cleaning operation the bent up outer end 25 of the shank 3 prevents the flame from being spread out backwardly and consequently serves as a heat protecting screen for the operators hand. v
By means of the bent up shape of the outer ends 24:, 25 of the shanks also the advantage is attained, that the needle 12 can be given the requisite length also in such cases, in which the burner as usually known is surrounded by a ring for the cook: ing utensil, which ring would prevent the insertion above the burner nozzle of a holder of such a straight lined form as shown in Figures 10 and 11.
I do not Want to limit myself to the embodiment above described and shown in the Figures 1-6. For instance my invention also includes a holder with substantially straight lined shanks as shown in Figures 10 and 11, as also according to these figures the cavity 20 in the shank 3 in the embodi-' ment described may be substituted by a plate 19 fastened to the lower side of said shank and provided with a hole 20 of the same width as the substituted cavity 20, and the forked-shaped projection 22 may be substituted by a correspondingly shaped platestrip 21 having an extension 23 angle bent to the forked-shaped portion 22, so as to form a heat protecting screen.
In the figures last referred to the casing 16 for spare needles has been given the shape of a socket closed in the one end and open in the other end and by this end fastened in a correspondin hole in the annular portion 1 of the hol er by means of a nut 15, which simultaneously forms the cover for the casing.
Of course the modifications of the catching device 20 the screen 23 and the casing 16 can be applied in various combinations to each othe What I claim is:
1. In holders for cleaning needles for va porizing burners, a resilient double-shanked pincer like handle, means on one shank of the handle for securing a cleaning needle, means on the other shank of the handle for guiding the needle through the orifice of a burner nozzle to be cleaned, and independ ent guiding means provided near the free ends of the shanks for positively preventing lateral strains on said needle;
2. In holders for cleaning needles for vaporizing burners, a resilient double-shanked pincer like handle, means on one shank of the handle for securing a cleaning needle thereto, guiding means for said needle on the other shank of said handle, one vof the shanks being also provided with a slot, and i a projection extending from the opposite shank of the handle for cooperating with the slot so as to guide said shanks laterally in relation to each other independently of said needle.
3. In holders for cleaning needles for vapori'zing burners, a resilient double-shanked pincer like handle formed from a single piece of metal, means on one shank of said handle for detachably clamping a needle, said means including a clamping member on one side of the shank of the handle, a set screw for forcing said clamping member against the side of said shank, the clamping surfaces of the member and the shank being provided with a groove having a depth less than the thickness of the needle so as to ensure of the firm fixing of the needle between the clamping surface-s upon the tightening of said screw and a needle guide formed on the other shank of the handle for guiding the needle in its axial movement when the shanks of the handle are moved relative to each other.
4:. In holders for cleaning needles for vaporizing burners, a resilient double-shanked pincer like handle formed of a single piece ofmetal, means: for detachably securing a needle on the end of one of the shanks of said handle, means on the other shank of said handle for guiding the needle in its axial movement, the last mentioned shank being also provided with an annular flange disposed coaxially with said needle and shaped to fit the upper end of the burner nozzle to be cleaned and a fork-shaped member adjacent to said annular flange and adapted to guide the holder when moved longitudinally to the burner nozzle so that 'the flange may be brought to engage said burner nozzle.
