Description
Dec. 25 1923.
R. A. PHILLIPS DOUCHE SEAT Filed Feb. 2a. 1923 1312i fiuzzqi MW 1 Patented Dec. 25, 1923.
UNITED STATES ROBERT A. PHILLIPS, OF TAYLORVILLE, ILLINOIS.
DOUCHE SEAT.
Application filed February 26, 1923. Serial No. 621,299.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBE-RT A. PHILLIPS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taylorville, in the county of Christian and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Douche Seat, of which the following is a s1 ecification.
The present invention relates to a douche seat and has for its principal object to provide a device which may be rested or supported upon a toilet bowl or commode so that a person taking a douche may rest thereon so as to allow the muscles to be relaxed whereby the douche may be more ef- 16 fective.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which is simple and efficient in construction, reliable in operation, comparatively inexpen- 20 sive to manufacture, durable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view. as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
F or the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawing that form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 isa perspective of the douche seat, and p Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Referring to the preferred embodiment of the invention in detail it will be seen that it consists of a pair of seat members 2 which converge toward each other and are in the form of rings or coil convolutions which terminate at one end in the legs 8 and at their other end in the legs 4. The forward legs 3 are provided with the curved extensions 5 forming teeth for engagement with the upper edge of the toilet bowl. The legs 4: are of double thickness the upper portions thereof being twisted. Teeth 6 are provided on the lower ends of the legs 4 and are of double thickness and engage the upper edge of the toilet bowl. A prop 7 is disposed to the rear of the legs 4: and is of double thickness having its upper portion twisted and is adapted to extend intothe bowl and engage the rear portion thereof. The embodiment thus described is preferably formed of a single rod bent and twisted into the various formations described. Of course the device could be otherwise formed so as to include the elements mentioned.
In use the teeth 5 and 6 are engaged with the upper edge of the toilet bowl or a commode or any other suitable basin or receptacle and the prop 7 is disposed therein en-' Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a pair of seat members, legsdepending from the seat members and provided with curved teeth for engaging the edge of a toilet bowl, and a prop extending to the rear of the device so as to depend in the toilet bowl in the manner and for the purpose specified. I
2. As a new article of manufacture, a douche seat of the class described formed from a single rod bent and twisted to form a pair of coil convolutions disposed in spaced relation to each other and so as to be angularly disposed in relation to each other, legs extending from the forward portions of the convolutions, legs extending from the rear portions of the convolutions, and a prop member disposed to the rear of the last mentioned legs and depending below their extremities in the manner and for the purpose specified. j
3. A device of the class described including a seat member, legs depending from the seat member and provided with means for engaging the edge of a bowl, and a member depending from the device for engagement Ill) with the interior of the bowl and preventing the slipping of the device in one direction in the manner and for the purpose specified.
4:. A device of the class described includ- 5 ing a pair of rings spaced from each other and extending at an acute angle in relation to each other, legs depending from the rings and provided with curved seats for engagement with the upper edge of a toilet bowl or the like, and a prop member disposed to the rear of and between the rear legs for extending into the bowl and preventing slipping of the device thereon in the manner and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 15 in presence of two Witnesses.
. ROBERT A. PHILLIPS.
