Description

W. K. PARKER.
` Carriage-Boot Fastenings. No.l47,861. ParentedFeb.24.1874.
gg l'a z vraag,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM K. VPARKER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND ELIAS A. BRYANT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-BOOT FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N. 147,861, dated February 24, 1574; application'filed October 8, 187,3.
and Fig. 5 a side view of the eccentric-lever latch. Fig. 6 is a top view ot the yoke. Fig. 7 is a transverse section ot the yoke, taken through its notched projection.
Thes'aidltasteningis composed ofthe two parts, or yoke A and eccentric-lever latch B, constructed substantially in manner and so as to operate together, as shown in such drawings, and hereinafter described. The yoke A is composed of an elongated eye, a., provided with two curved prongs, b b, bent in arcs of a circle, so that there may be a circular space, s, between, with an opening, t, between their ends. At the juno tion of the prongs and the eye is a curved projection, c, raised in the yoke, and notched transversely, as shown at d. The yoke thus made is connected with, or to be connected to, one of a pair of dasher-flap straps, O D. The eccentric-lever latch B is pivoted to the other of the said straps, the pivot being shown at e, and arranged eccentrically to, and to project from, the bottom of a cylindrical head or eccentric, j'. From this head a flange, g, and an arm, 71., project in opposite directions, and, in other respects, in manner as shown, the armbeing formed, on its lower edge, so as to be capable of entering the notch d. The pivot c goes through the strap, and receives a screw, h1, which rst passes through a metallic washer, t', arranged against the under side of the strap, the whole serving to hold the eccentric-lever latch, in connection with the strap, in a man4 11er to enable the former to be revolved on the latter.
By turning the latch until its handle or arm is brought upward, and inserting the body ot' the latch upward, within the yoke, and next revolving the latch one hundred and eighty degrees, or tl1ereabout,the ange g will lap on the prongs of the yoke, and the arm or handle 71J will extend over the yoke and in the notch d, so as to hold both yoke and latch in engagement or locked.
The projection, with the lockingno'tch, may be omitted from the yoke 5 but it is preferable to have such additions, as they operate, with the arm h, to prevent accidental disengagement of the yoke and latch.
While the latch is in the act of being revolved in one direction, it will raise the yoke upward, so as to draw the straps toward each other, a contrary result following1 during a reverse motion of the latch.
I claim as my invention- The yoke A, and the eccentric-lever latch B, constructed and for use together in manner and for the purpose substantially as specified.
