UNITED STATES" 1,478,384 PATENT OFFKZE.
AIDE-RT A. DORSCH, F MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
CHART.
Application med December 5, 1921. Serial R0. 520,057.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I ALBERT A. Donson, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Charts, of
20, mg the names of the salesmen are employed in conjunction with other data'to show at a glance which of the salesmen in the or ganization is selling the most merchandise and also what the total sales of the business are.
The invention further consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and pnore particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings: Fi 1 is an elevation view of adevice embo yin the invention, parts being broken away; ig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings the numeral 4 designates a frame in which transverse frame members 5 and 6 are mpunted and carry a panel Upon the panel 7 I mount a data sheet 8 having transversely extending lines 9 thereon and vertical lines 10 and 11 which cooperate with the edges of the sheet to form columns 12 and 13. The column 12 is divided by lines 9 to progressively indicate money value or amount of sales, and in the present instance. I have shown certain of these amounts in this column on Fig. 1. The column 13 isdivided by the lines 10 to progressively indicate total amount of sales in money value. v j
The number 5 has a rounded upper edge 14 and spaced pins 15 rejecting therefrom. The member 6 carries a shaft 17 is mounted. Upon this shaft 17 rackets 16 in which are joumalled a plurality of gears 18 provided with pulley or wheel portions 19.
Indicator tapes or bands 20 respectively .run over these pulleys 19 and the edge 14 of the member 5 and between the pins 15,* adjacent the face of the said tapes movin sheet 8. For so active movement of the tapes I rovide a splined shaft 21 anda gear 22s idably but non-rotatably mounted thereony said gear adapted to be moved by hand or by any suitable miechanism along 655 the shaft into mesh with anyone of the gears 18. The shaft 21'is provided with a hand-crank 24.
The indicator tapes or bands have con- .trasted .portions, such as black and white colored parts, whereby the line of division between these different colored parts may cooperate .with the data in the column 12 of the chart, and in the present-instance a tape is provided for each salesman and his 7 name is written or printed thereon. With each predetermined amount of sales of. any of the salesmen the tape bearing his name is moved to bring the top or beginning of the black portion of the tape in line with the total amount of his sales found in the column 12, and as all the tapes are arranged in a row the relative selling ability of the different salesmen is graphically shown and ascertainable from the chart by aglance at the relative positions of the blackened portions of the tape with respect to a datum line 25 formed by the upper edge of a sheet 26 which also may be provided with data indicating the state or territory in which the salesman operates, as shown in Fig. 1.
In order to ascertain the total sales a totalizing band or tape 27, similar to those previously described, runs over the curved edge 14 and a pulley 28 on a shaft 29 which carries a gear 30 meshing with a gear 31 on the shaft 21, said gearing being of such a ratio as to move the tape with respect to the amounts in the column 13 a certain predetermined amount each time the shaft 21 is turned to record the amount of sales of any one of the salesmen so that said tape cooperates with the column 13 to register the total combined amount of sales of all the.
salesmen. Tension is put on the tapes -by interposing a spring 32 between the ends of each tape, and a glass cover or front 33 may be secured to the frame 4 in front of the indicating. mechanism.
While the device is shown used in coni nection with the work of a sales organization, it will be und rs od th t it may be used for other purposes Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a chart, the combination, of a data column and a plurality of individually movable progress indicators cooperating With said column to provide independent graph-= ical indications, said indicators being arranged for graphical comparison.
2. in asales chart, the comloination oii a data column for amounts of sales, individual indicators for each salesman cooperating with said data column for progressively indicating the amount of his sales, said indicators being arranged for graphical comparison of the amount of sales or the salesmen.
3. in a sales chart, the combination oil a data column for amounts of sales, individuai indicators for each salesman comprising navaeec movable bands cooperating'vvith said data column for progressively indicating the amount of his sales, said bands bein arranged for raphical comparison oi the] amount oi? sa es of the salesmen, means for selectively moving said hands.
a. lln a sales chart, the combination of a data column for amount of sales, individual indicators for each salesman comprising movable bands cooperating with the data 30 column for progressively indicating the amount of his sales, sai bands being arranged for graphical comiparison, a shaft, pulleys on said shaft over which said bands move, each pulley carrying a gear, and a 35 driving gear mounted for selective actuation of any of said first-named gears.
lln testimonyvv'hereof, I aflix my signature.
