Description

w. H. WOOD GAUGE INVENTOR WITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 18,
WALTER H. WOOD, OF FOR/EST, IDAHO.
' I GAUGE.
Application filed August 19, 1922. Serial No. 583,051.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER H. W001), a citizen of the United States, residing at Forest, in the county of Lewis and State or Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gauges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a saw gauge and file holder, the general object of the invention being to provide means for clamping a file in different positions in the device so that the file can be used upon a saw and also to provide gaging means for the saw teeth.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for cutting the drag teeth of the saw to the same lengths.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is a rear view. Figure 3 is a plan view. Figure 4 is an end view. Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure 1. p
In these views 1 indicates a frame which is provided with the centrally arranged and transversely extending opening 2 for receiving the sliding member 3. A stationary nut 4 extends into the opening and a screw bolt 5 is detachably mounted in the member 3 and engages said nut. Thus by turning the bolt the member 3 will be caused to move in the opening. This member has an overhangas the frame to firmly hold the movable meming upper end, as shown at 6, which has a ber when the same is in its lowered position. A hardened steel plate 10 is placed on the top of the member, this plate having a slot therein which coincides with the slot 7. A bracket 11 is connected with the top edge of the frame, the end of this bracket projecting over the opening, this projecting end having a screw threaded hole 12 therein for receiving a set screw 13, this screw being in alignment with one end of the slot 7. A file to receiving space 14 is formed in one face of the frame by means of the lugs 15 on said frame and the pins 16, the file A being adapted to fit between the pins and lugs. The movable member is also provided with on a recess 17 in its upper end for receiving the middle part of the file so as to clamp the same in place by pressing it against the pins and lugs at one side of the space. A file receiving space 18 is formed at the lower to part of the frame for receiving the file and holding the same in fiat position' The member is provided with a shoulder 19 at its bottom for engaging the file and holding the same between itself and the upper wall of we said space. One end of the frame is provided with the projecting parts 20 for engaging the face of the saw and a sliding gauge part 21 is adjustably mounted at this end of the frame by means of the set screw @0 22. This arrangement of parts will permit the set of the teeth to be gaged.
From the above it will be seen that a file can be held in flat position at the lower part of the frame for working upon the teeth of a5 the saw and a file can also be held on edge in the upper part of the frame for working upon the sides of the teeth. The projections 20 and the gauge 21 can be used for gaging the set of the teeth, the projections 20 engaging the face of the saw with the gauge 21 engaging the teeth. The groove 8 and slot 7 are used for cutting the drag teeth of a saw, set screw 13 being used for securing a fine adjustment.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a frame, a movable member supported thereon, means for moving the member at right angles to the frame, file engaging parts on renew said member cooperating with the file engagin parts on the frame, a slot in the top of said member, an overhanging part on the frame, a set screw carried thereby in alignment with the slot and a flange on the mem her for engaging a part on the frame.
In testimony whereof I vafiiX mysignatnre 1 WALTER H. WOOD.
