Various modifications may be made in the device embodying my invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and I desire that only such limitations' shall be placed thereon as are imposed by the prior art or are specifically set forth in the appended claims.
I claim 'as my invention 1. In an electric furnace, in combination, a plurality of relatively narrow refractory members, of substantially T-shape, each having a projecting portion provided with an overhanging flange, stirrups supported by said overhanging flanges and `a `resistor member supported by said stirrups.

a plurality of relatively narrow refractory' members,` of substantially Teshape, each having an overhangingflange portion, stirrups supported bysaid overhanging flange portions, embodying means in said flange portions for holding said stirrups in proper operative position, and a resistor member supported byfV said stirrups.

ported at spaced intervals by said stirrups and being self-supporting therebetween.

-a plurality of refractory walls enclosing a furnace chamber, a plurality of spaced Sets of spaced-apart relatively narrow refractory members supportedlby one of said walls, each of said refractory members having a portion projecting into said chamber` said portion being provided with an overhangl ing flange portion, stirrups supported by the Iflange portion'of the respective refractory ber supported at spaced intervals by said stirrups and being self-supporting therebetween, and embodying means in said flange portions for preventing movement of said stirrups longitudinally of said resistor member when the sameexpands and l'contracts during operation of the furnace.
5. ln an electric furnace, in combination, a plurality of refractory walls enclosing a furnace chamber, a plurality of relatively narrow refractory members lof substantially T-shape supported by said walls, each having an inner end provided with an overhanging flange, stirrups supported by. said overlianging flanges, a relatively heavy resistor member supported at spaced-apart points by said stirrups and being self-sup porting therebetween, and embodying means on said overlianging flange for preventing movement of lsaid stirrups longitudinally of said resistor member when the same expands and contracts during operation of the furnace.
