this latter having on one side a flat subprincip e stantially vertical face 10 which bears against the front face of the head 6 of the lifting bar, and a radially'extending stem or shank 11 located centrally of its flat side 10 and fitting down into the vertical slot 7 of the head. The cup member 9 has at its upper end a horizontal flange 12 which rests on the top of the head 6, and on the opposite sides of the radial stem or shank 11 are formed a pair of lobes 13, best shown in Fig. 4, which fit into the recesses 8 and cooperate with the flat side 10 in securely holding the cup attachment rigid with the head on which it is detachablyvmounted. I

" From the foregoing it will be seen that the cup attachment is mounted on the head by a simple downward movement on the latter, and may be withdrawn therefrom by a simple upward or lifting movement; but when engaged with the head it is rigidly supported by the latter against downward or tilting movement or lateral movement in either direction Seated in the cup 9 is the lower end of a pike pole 14 that, when in place, constitutes in eifect a longitudinal extension of the lifting bar of the jack and is preferably provided with a sharp or pointed upper end, 14' adapted to bite into the wood of the pole or other object to be straightened.

Fi 1 illustrates the use of the device so clear y as to render verbal description useless. When using the device for straightening operations the angle of the jack frame to its base is, of course, constantly shifting, and. therefore the locking pawl 37 is unlatched. The improvement readily enables the jack to be footed at a considerable distance from the base of the pole, for which purpose the pike pole 14 may be of any esired or suitable length, and thus avoids the necessity of preparing a special or arti-v ficial foundation or footing for the jack in close proximity to the base of the pole. Another advantage of the invention resides in the fact that by its use the jack can be made to operateat a-more favorable angle to the pole or other obj ectto be straightened,

and is also enabled to engage with the latter at a higher point, at which less power is required to eifect a straightening, operation. V Ihave described in detail the particular structure illustrated in the accompanying drawin for the purpose of making clear the of my invention and disclosing one practical embodiment thereof, but it will be understood that the improvement is not limited to the particular pole jack herein disclosed, and that various changes and modifications may be made without departing in any manner from the invention.

I claim 1. The combination with a jack frame, and an endwise movable rack-bar slidably mounted therein, of a removable attachment member adapted to be fitted onto and supportedby the upper end of said lifting bar and formed with a' seat to support a pole extension of said lifting bar.

2. The combination with a jack havinga pivotally jointed frame and base and an endwise movable lifting-bar, of a removable attachment member adapted tointerfit with and be rigidly supported on the upper end of said lifting-bar, saidattachment member being formed with a socket to seat the lower end of a pole extension of said lifting-bar.

3. The combination with a jack having an endwise movable lifting-bar, of an accessory for lengthening the reach of the jack, including a cup-shaped member adapted to seat the lower end of a ole extension of the lifting-bar, and a sha of said cup-shaped member romovably interfitted with and supported by the upper end of said lifting-bar.
