Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Recovery Apparatus;

Ilhe present invention relates to a recovering apparatus applicable in the various industries, and is designed especially' for the recovery of sulphur dioxide gas, relief liquor and heat in the process of cooking wood. l
The invention is employed in connection with two, or more digesters connected in such a manner that the gases created in one of them may be conducted into the other for use in a subsequent operation of the latter digester. Likewise thereis an edective transfer of heat from ,one digester tov the next one during. the successive operations, as a lresult of which the apparatus recovers and conserves heat' energy that would otherwise be wasted in the ordinary cooling system.

In addition to the foregoing, it has been 'found in practice that the apparatus gives use to a greatery'ield of No. lnpulp per digester as well as a more uniform and better quality of' stock. I

The inventionis fully disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawing, in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout.
The device consists of a pair of digesters indicated as No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. rllhe lower end of each digester carries a cross coupling 1 into the lower openings of which. is fitted-a cross pipe 2 placing the digesters into communication at their lower ends. @ne of. the lateral branches of each cross receives an acid. supply pipeY 2 3, properly tted with valves or the like (not shown) for controlling the iiow of acid thereintc.
Thesepipes 3 may also be joined-to a suitable steam supply as is already known in' the art. The remaining lateral branch oi .each cross receives a discharge pipe 4 which communicates with a blowpit. Each digester is provided at its top with an outlet pipe 5 communicating with the lead-oil' pipe B b means of the branches 6-47. lThe lead-o pipe 'extends' to an acid storage tank (not shown). The outlets 5 are controlled by means of valves 8 and 9 .fitted in the junctions between these pipes and the branches 6 7. A cross pipe 10 joins the two vbranches and communicates with the cross pipe 2 by means of aby-pass A connected into the intermediate portions of these pipes. The two sides ofthe cross pipe-2 are controlled by suitable valves 11 and 12, while opposite sides of the cross pipe 10 are provided with valves 13-14L Similarly the portions of the branches 6--7 rearward of the cross pipe are fitted with the valves15`16. The digesters may be equippedl with gauges 17 'for 'an obvious purpose if desired.
ln operation, digester No. 1 is filled with chips and acid in the usual manner. Digester No. 2 isthen filled with chips and full of acid. Steam is introduced into No. l, thus raising the interior to the desi-red pressure in the usual manner. The valves 9, 14: and 11 are opened, the remaining valves being closed whereby hot acid and gas pass from digester No. 1 into the bottom ot No.2 through branch 7 pipe A and cross pipe 2. Valves `8 and- -15 are now opened, valve' 13 being ,kept closed, thus allowing the gas rising from digester No. 2 to flow into the leadod pipe B .and to the storage tank.

Although a specific form of the invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that `various alterations in the details of construction may be made without departing fromxthe spirit of the invention as indicated by the appended claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire t0 protect by Letters Patent is:-
1. A recovery apparatus comprising a pair gesters in'commumcation, means for supplying acid to said digesters, an outlet pipe fitted with each digester, an acid lead-off pipe,
'- branches, connecting said pipe with each of the outlets, across pipe connecting said pipe with each of the outlets, a cross pipe connecting said branches, a by-pass connecting the intermediate portions of the cross pipes, and valves arranged in said cross pipes, at opposite sides of the lay-pass and in the outlets.
2. A recovery apparatus comprising a pair of digesters, cross couplings fitted at the lower ends of said dgesters, a cross )ipe connecting -said cross suppl)T and discharge pipes fitted into said crosses, an outlet pipe provided in each digcster, an :wid lead-ofi pipe, branches connecting said lcadeof pipe with the outlets, a cross pipe connecting said branches, a by-pass connecting intermediate portions of said cross pipes, valves fitted in said cross pipes at opposite sides of the by-pass, and in the outlets and branches.
