To all fr/wm t muy concern: Figure 7 is a sectional detail et the frame Be it known that I, Josnri-I BANNEYER, a and a side view of the lighting mechanism citizen oit' the United States, residing in at 'the top of the sign taken on line 7--7 01"' Chicago, Cook County, State of Illinois, Figure l,

means for joining said sections together to Dfferent lengths of pipe may be coupled form a Complete Sign frame 0f any Sig@ detogether by a T-coupling A. which receives sired, and one which can be formed 0f a, the ends 0f the pipe 0i tubular members A, `variety of designs to suit different pur- A sheet metal sign plateB is provided of suit- 75 poses. able length and width to be positioned with- It is a further Object of my invention to in the frame formed by the pipe A, but out Provide 3, Sign of the (319,53 described which Of COIltiCf therewith. `The @dg/9S Of JClllS in its construction is provided with conduits Plat@ 211'@ rOllGd t0 Orm a tubular edge or through which electric Wires may be passed bead (L, which eXeIlClS alOUIlCl the plate as 80 to different points of connection. It is also an object of my invention to EX@I1}1I1gl`lI1S\'1`Sely Of the plate Bare provide a sign which shall be artistic in aplflnfOrClIlg StIlpS B, which may be posipearance, strong and durable and capable tioned wherever found desirable Jfor the pur`- of a variety of advantages in form `and conpose of strengthening the plate or for divid- 85 struction in the. agsgmbly 0f the parte, ing the plate into different si gn sections as In the accompanying drawings I have il- ShOWIllustrated what I now consider the preferred Means 'Ol securing these reinforcing form 0f the egggntial feammg of my uwnstrips are provided at each end thereof and tion and in these drawings consist of metal attaching members b which 90 40 Figure 1 is a :tron-t elevation ot' the comare shaped to conform to the outline of the plete sign, pipe frame A and the bead t on the edge Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line of the sign plate. By this means` the reinforcing strips may be placed wherever desired or removed and replaced as needed.
The attaching members are arranged in various styles to secure dierent forms of construction together where it is desired to construct a sign having a plurality of sign sections assembled as shown in Figure l. In this instance an upper'and lower independent sign section is atached to the top andv bottom of the sign in which instance, the smaller sign frame is also formed of tubing A2 which is attached to the main frame by means of the coupling members C, enraging the main frame A. A sign plate B2 is provided of suitable size to lit within the frame A2 and out of contact therewith as shown inFig. l, the coupling members havingengagement at the corners e thereof, with the rolled edge or bead of the sign plate B2.
Engaging members CZ are provided at the upper corners of the `frame A2 also have engagement with the upper corners of the rolled edge of the plate B2.
To strengthen and secure the lower edge of the sign plate B2, l have provided the attaching ymember C3, which fits over the tubular member A of the main frame. Projecting from each end of said attaching vmember is an extending portion which receives the rolled edges of the plates B and B2, and as heretofore explained, is secured together by means of bolts o2 or the like.
A smaller auxiliar;7 sign may be arranged to depend from the lower edge of the main sign plate B and a 'tubular frame with an attaching member similar to C3 is provided as previously described. ln this instance the sign plate D is provded with ornamental end pieces D2, which are secured to a channel d which is constructed with the projecting member CZ', adapted to .tit within a` tubular member A, and to be fixe/diy secured thereto by means of screws Z2 or otherwise as shown in Figure 5, the central portion of said attaching member comprising` an angularly bent framemember D3. which is secured to the channel (Z. The ends of this frame Dsl receive the end of the sign plate D and is secured thereto by the bolts d* passing through said frame and the plate D, shown more clearly in Figure l0. i
lUpon the lower edge of the depending auxiliary sign member is a coupling niember D3, designedto be attached to the rolled edge of the sign plate D as at (Z3 and to fit closely around the ltubular member A; both ends of said attaching member being sccuredthrough the sign plate.
The upper and lower auxiliary sign plates B2 and D may be dispensed with where desired and the sign consist only of the elon- `rated sign plate B with the surroundin; frame members and trans'if'e sely extendingreinforcing` strips B. Y
Supported in suitable brackets e-e attached preferably to the frame A at one end of the sign plate B, is a frame member E, designed to support an electric lighting4 fixture, o', having a defiector lt, which is adjusta-bly mounted thereon whereby light may be directed toward and from the sign plate B at night. The bracket c is provided with an extension e2, which extends into a slot cnt through the wall of the frame member A and is attached thereto by means of the screw e3. When desired there may be provided at the top of the auxiliary sign plate B2, an additional lighting fixture D, having a deflector D4 attached thereto, as shown in Figure l.
E2 is a fitting constructed to be seated within an opening' formed in the tubular member A. as shown in Figure l, the wires E3 extending through the tubular member A, and to the supporting bracket E from which the lamp D3 is suspended.
ln Figure 9, l have shown a slightly modified form of joint construction wherein the .frame members may be secured together by means of bolts f, which extend through slots in the plate F, havingl a transversely extending strip f', on one side thereof. Ihc oppositely facing ends of the plates F. are provided with the fianges ff--fg upon either side of which is an angle ,f3-7i", which flanges and angles are secured together b v a bolt f4, passing theretln'ougrh. This affords very convenient method of `ioininpT sections of the plate together in a modified form of frame construction.
I claim:
l. A sign comprising a tubular outer frame, a sign plate within said frame but out of contact tlierewith, a bead formed on the edges of said sign plate, attaching menibers secured to said plate and to the tubular members, and reinforcing strips cx tending across the face of the sign plaie and being secured with said attaching members.
2. A sign comprising a tubular outer frame` a sign plate within said frame but out of contact therewith. removable attachin a` members fitting; around said tubular .frame and engaging the edges oi.' thc sinn plate, reinforcing` strips extending between corresponding attachingy members and across the face of the sign plate. and means for securing said reinforcing` strips with the attaching members.
3. A sign comprising a tubular outer frame. a sign plate within said frame but out of direct contact therewith, spaced apa-rt removable attaching members fitting around said tubular members and engaging the edges of the sign plate. reinforcing.
strips extending' across the sign plate on both sides thereof between said attmfhmg members, brackets having 'engagement through openings in the Wall of the tubular member, a light deflector supported on said brackets7 said deflector being adjustable toward and from the sign.
4c. A sign comprising a tubular Outer frame, a sign plate Within said frame but out of Contact therewith, attaching members fitting around said tubular frame member extending on each side of the tubular members and sign plate, reinforcing strips on 10 each side of the sign plate having engagement with said attaching members and an adjustable light delector supported in proximity to said sign plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed this l5 specification.
JOSEPH BANNEYER.
