lie it known that 1, ROBERT H. ROMIG, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Anchorage, Territory of Alaska, have invented certain. new and useful 1m provenients in Paper-Fastening Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, concise, and eXact description 0 f the invention, such as will enable others s lled in the art to which it appertains to lliltk and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in pa per fastening or binding devices, having for an object to provide a novel form of spring clip particularly advantageous for use in the packaging or binding of paper currency in banking and finance institutions, whereby the paper notes will be positively.

and securely held in juxtaposed or packaged relation, thus preventing displacement of any one or more than one during subsequent handling, means being arranged on the clip for receiving and retaining an indicia or value indicating tag in order that the contents of the package may be readily ascertained.

It is likewise an object of the invention to provide a currency clip of the character mentioned which, because of its construction, may be used and reused for an indefinite period of time, thus avoiding waste, as where paper strips bearing value indicating notations are employed for binding or packing paper currency.

Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.

In order that the invention and its mode of application may be readily understood by persons skilled in the art, I have in the accompanying illustrative drawings, and in the detailed following description based thereon, set out one possible embodiment of the game.

In these drawings Figure l is a perspective view of the improved clip showing the same applied to a package of currency, the latter being shown in dotted lines;

drawings, in connection with which like characters of reference will designate corresponding parts throughout, the improved clip may be stated to comprise a single length of spring material, such as wire or the like, a portion of which is bent into an elongated looped body portion indicated by the numeral 1, the sides of such body por-' tion being arranged in parallel relationship, whereby to permit the securing of an indicia bearing plate 2 thereto, connection between the plate and the parallel sides of the elongated looped body portion 1 being sf? fected by fianging the opposite sides of said plate and bending the same into engagement with adjacent portions of the body as indi cated by the numeral 3. In this connection, it is to be noted that the indicia bearing plate 2 is of a length such as will cover the greater portion of the body 1 and in conse quence, will provide an effectual brace for the flexible parallel sides of spring material, thus preventing relative movement therebetween during usage of the clip and also, lending to the stability of the device in general.

One extremity of the looped body por tion 1 is extended coincidentally with the same but at an oblique angle thereto, thus constituting a clamping or binding arm 4, the free portion of which arm is bent upon itself in substantially looped or Ushaped fashion, as indicated by the numeral 5, thus providing said arm with two substantially parallel side portions and causing the arm so constructed to be of a width corresponding or approximately.corresponding to the width of the body portion 1. In this connection, it is to be noted that the free end of the binding or clamping arm 4 extends to a point slightly inwardly of one end of the indicia bearing plate 2. In consequence paper currency engaged between the arm 4 and the body portion 1 carrying the indicia bearing plate will be caused to be clampingly engaged with said body portion and because of the bracing-like action of the indicia bearing plate 2 with respect to the opposite sides of said body portion, flexing movement as between the opposite sides of the body portion will be prevented and in consequence, the paper notes comprising the package will be firmly secured by the device.

It is to be understood that the face or outer side of the indicia bearing plate may be supplied with any form of notation, indicating the value of the package of currency held thereby, such as indicated by the numeral 6, this notation being removable from the plate when it is desired to use the same for binding or packaging a bundle o currency of different value.

Because of the construction of the improved clip, it will be readily understood that'the same may be used and reused in thepackaging or binding of paper currency .money by passing gummed paper strips about the same and joining the adhesive coated ends thereof.

Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of my claims, I consider Within the spirit of my invention.

I claim:

1. A device of the character described .com risin an elon ated loo 36d bod ortion formed of a single length of spring material, an arm disposed conincidentally with said body portion but at an oblique angle thereto, and an indicia bearing plate secured to the opposite sides of said body portion.

2. A device of the character described comprising an elongated looped body portion formed of a single length of spring material and having substantially parallel sides, an arm extending from one extremity of the looped body portion coincidentally therewith but arranged at an oblique angle thereto, said arm being bent upon itself into substantially U-shaped fashion and of a width approximately corresponding to the width of said body portion, and an indicia bearing plate clampingly secured to the parallel opposite sides of the body portion.

3. A device of the character described comprising an elongated looped body portion formed of a single length of spring material and having substantially parallel opposite side portions, a sheet metal indicia bearing plate clampingly engaged with said parallel opposite sides of the body portion and covering the greater portion of said body portion, one extremity of said body portion being arranged at an oblique angle thereto and extended coincidentally with the same, the free portion of said extremity being bent upon itself in substantially U shaped fashion whereby to provide a clamping arm of a width approximately corresponding to the width of said body portion, the free end of said arm being extended to a point in proximity to one end of said indicia bearing plate.
