citizen of the United States, residin at New York city, in the county of New lork and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in trigerators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in iceless coolers, and one of the principal ob je cts is to provide a device of this character whereby air maybe cooled by forcing-- it through a moistened fabric.
Another object is to provide improved fabric moistening means.
Another object is to provide a device of I this nature which may be used in a refrigerator or rovision cooler and which may be removed t erefrom and secured to the wall of a room for cooling the air thereof or for distributing disinfecting deodorizing or perfumin solutions.
v Wit these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel construction and combination'and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter described and claimed, and which. are fully illustrated in the acco-m panying drawinge comprising two sheets, in which Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section of my devicev as applied to a refrigerator or provision cooler.

This invention contemplates the providing'of a provision contamer with a device comprising a water tank which automaticall it is distributed by capillary attraction to a screen stretched on a frame in front of an electric forcing fan, the frame being provided at its lower margin witha gutter for catching and carrying off superfluous moisture.

The partitions 2 are provided with apertures 6 which provlde means for permitting a. free circulation of air through the chambers and with air outletscor vents 7. A partition 8, prefera'bly of metal is provided at the side of chambers 4 and so as to divide off a space or chamber 9, and is provided with a large number of perforations 10 which permit the entrance of air from chamber 9 into chamber 5. Suitable doors (not shown) are provlded at the front of the structure for closing the chambers 3, 4, 5and 9.
A slide 11 is mounted on. the side wall 1 of chamber 9 and mounted on this slide is. a liquid container ortankil2. Fhis tank is provided with an aperture 13 in its top ot er which is secured a rubber gasket 14. A filling member 15 is provided with an end 16, anda rivet or bolt 17 unites the members 14: and 16 to the top of the tank. The end 16 has an aperture 18adapted to be moved into and out of register with the aperture 13 and the corresponding opening Filling member 15 may be provided at its free end with an enlargement or funnel 19. It will be readily seen that by turning the member 14 so thatits aperture 18 registers with the aperture 13, the tank may be filled while by turning the member 14; so that its aperture 18 is over a solid portion of the gasket 14., the tank is sealed as far as aperture 13 is concerned. A small aperture 20 is provided at the bottom of the tank, said aperture opening into a trough 21. It will'be readily understood that water will be emitted-from aperture 20 until trough 21 is sufiiciently filled to bring the water in the trough high enough to seal opening 20, and that the water will be automatically maintained at such level. A stopper is provided for closing aperture 20 during'filling of the tank.
A curved flange 22 is provided at the edge of trough 21 and secured to this flange in any suitable manner is a depending frame 23 on which is tightly stretched a fabric curtain 24 provided at the top with a flap or wick 25 which is thrown up over flange 22 and hangs in trough 21 from which it ,draws the water by capillary attraction and .frame 23 and is adapted to catch the superand may be operated from any-v suitable battery or other source of power. This fan may be of the stationary shaft type or of the oscillating type, but in. the latter case the tank, and its trough and curtain would be made of a correspondingly curvilinear form. Air may be conducted into chamber and air may be forced through the curtain from nozzles connected with an air compressor or like deviceJ The board or slide 11 is also provided with a pluralityof apertures 31 so. that if it is deslred to cool or disinfect the air of a room, the slide 11 may be removed from wall 1 by sliding it endwise in the grooves and may be secured to the wall of the room or other suitable support with the curtain dropping over any wall fan, as shown in Fi re 2.. v t will of course be understood that the air fromthe fan in being forced through curtain 24 is cooled by the evaporation of the liquid, and that thiscooled air passes in turn into chambers 5, 4 and 3 and is then expelledthrough .vents 7.
