PATENT @FFHCE.
ALBER'I B. CAW'IHRA, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
SURGICAL SUPPORT Application filed September 11, 1922. Serial No. 587,372.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT B. CAWTHRA,
-a citizen of the United States residing at Worcester, in the county of VVbrcester and State ofMassachusetts, have invented a new and useful Surgical Support, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved medical support. In many diseases and after certain surgical operations it is necessary to support the male organs on account of the swelling or weak condition. This is usually done by attaching the ends of strips of surgical plaster to the thighs and building up a platform in this way. This is not very satisfactory because it is not hygienic and because the support has to be renewed very often, it being very painful to the patient to remove the strips of plaster.
I have provided a support which can be used for this purpose. My improved support consists of a sheet or board, preferably made of antiseptic material. A narrow mouthed notch is out in one side of this board, this notch having its inner edge grooved and having the sides of the narrow mouth rounded. A support of this character can be placed under the organs, and by the shaping of the notchit will be held in position and the organs will be comfortably supported thereon. The support can be easily placed in position or removed, and can be easily cleaned by boiling or by wash- The device has proved e'flicient in practice and has relieved a great deal of suffering.
The preferred form of the device "is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. in which i I Fig. 1 shows thehuman figure in outline with the device in position;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device.
In detail. in the drawing A designates a sheet or board which has a notch B cut or formed in'one side thereof, th inner edge of the notch being rounded as at C, and the notch having a narrow mouth D, the sides of the narrow mouth being curved all around it as at E. In practice the device has been made out of hard'and smooth fiber, but any material suitable for the purpose may be employed. Thedetails and shape of the device may be varied without departing from the scope of my invention as expressed in the claims.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by 'Lettors Patent is: i
1. A support of the character described for sustaining the genital organs of a male human being, consisting of a board having a notch in one side thereof to accommodate thereof to accommodate said organs.
3. A support of the character described for sustaining the genital organs of a male human being, consisting of a board having a narrow-mouthed notch in one side thereof to accommodate said organs.
4:. A support of the character described for sustaining the genital organs of a-male human being, consisting of a board having a notch in one side thereof, the inner edge of the notch being curved, to accommodate said organs.
5. A support of the character described for sustaining the genital organs of a male human being, consisting of a board havin a narrow mouthed notch in one side thereo the inner edge of the notch being curved and the sides of the mouth being rounded, to accommodate said organs.
v In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.-
ALBERT B. CAWTHRA.
