L. B. ELLIOTT DIE Filed Dec. 21. 1922 gnuentoz Fatented Nov. 28, 1%23.
arena-r DIE.
Application filed December 21, 1922.
i 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEWIS B. ELLIOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado, in the county of Mitchell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dice, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in dice and it is an object of the in vention to provide a novel and improved die wherein the dots thereon are luminous so that the die can be employed in the dark whereby it is possible to play games of different kinds without the necessity of external or artificial light.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved dice whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a view in perspective of a die constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectionalview taken through the die as in Figure 1.
' As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, D denotes a die of the general cubical type and which is provided on the faces thereof with dots. Each of the dots is produced by forming in the face of the die a recess or pocket 1 of suitable configuration Serial No. 608,276.
and depth. A lamination or layer 2 of suit able luminous material of sufiicient brilliancy is applied over the bottom of the re cess or pocket 1 and after this material has thoroughly dried the outer portion of the recess or pocket 1 has applied therein a filler of transparent celluloid or other kindred transparent material such as lacquer, varnish and the like. duced in a die as herein disclosed the same can be employed for use in playing games of different characters with the same facility in the dark as in the light as the luminous character of the dots will readily render the same visible.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a die constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention.
I claim r- As a new article of manufacture, a playing die provided with luminous dots, each of said dots comprising a recess, a lamination of luminous material at the bottom of said recess, and a transparentprotective material within the recess outwardly ofthe luminous lamination.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
LEWIS B. ELLIOTT.
