To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AnoLr Klrowsm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Heelplates, of which the following is a specification.

' This invention relates to shoes and like footwear having as its main object to pro vide a detachable plate or lift adapted to withstand the constant wear and be readily replaceable when worn too thin.

Another purpose is to provide an elfective and practical means for engaging the lift to the heel, the same being operable in a simple and easy manner.

A further purpose is in the provision of means designed to prevent unsightly appearance of shoe heels, as caused by con stant use, the device being relatively iner. pensive to manufacture, and always pro ducing a shapely and symmetrical appearance.

These objects are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a conventional type of shoe and indicating the application of the invention.

Figure 4 is a longitudinal cross sectional. view of a shoe heel showing the plate as applied.

Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 40 5-5 of Figure 4.

In the drawing, the numeral 10 designates the sole of a common shoe, having a vamp 11, toe 12 and upper 13.

Secured in the usual manner in the bot- 45 tom of the sole, at the rear thereof, is a heel 14 of ordinary construction but containing a preferably rectangular recess 15,

elongated transversely, open at the bottom and extending Well into the heel fabric as 5 best shown in Figure 4.

A plate 16, made of any preferred material, as rubber composition or metal, is shaped to the configuration of the heel 14. so that its edges are in ail round register, and rigidly fixed on the upper fiat side of the plate are a pair of spaced lugs 18 containing [circular apertures 19 openly recessed, as at 20, at their front edges.

A round rod 21 is passed through suitable openings in the side walls of the heel chamher 15, the ends of the rods being upset to form heads 22 which contain slots suited to receive a screw driver or like implement by which the rod may be turned.

At intervals corresponding to the center distances of the lugs 18, the rod 21 i fiattened on opposite sides presenting key elements 2% adapted to enter the slots 20 of the lugs and upon advancing the plate and lugs, to engage in the openings 19, whercupon the rod is rotated, locking the lugs within the chamber and securely fastening the plate upon the heel, the cam-like portion of the rod obviously clamping the plate in its adjusted position.

It will be apparent that when it is desired to remove the plate, the rod is turned to present its flattened portion parallel with tie plate so as to pass out of the slot when the plate is pressed forcibly towards the rear.

Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its application and use, what I claim as new and desire to cure by Letters Patent, is:--

The combination with a shoe heel having a recess opening outwardly, a rod rotat able transversely in said heel, said rod passing throu 'h the opening therein. cam elements formed on said rod, a plate shaped in conformity with the heel. a pair of spaced lugs fixed on said plate adapted to extend into the opening in the heel. and means in said lugs to engage the cam elements of said rod.
