Be it known that I, CLAUDE E. STREET, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bradentown, in the county of Manatee, in the State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crushers, of which the following is a specication.

My present invention relates to a machine for crushing` any substance, and more particularly to a device which is readily adaptable for the crushing of citrus fruit, where it is desired to extract the juice therefrom.

The primary object of my invention is the provision of instrumentalities whereby a positive action is insured, which action may be adjustable, if desired, to crush to many degrees of iineness, and to limit the amount of juice extracted from the fruit, and which may be of an extremely simple construction.

To this end my invention includes a base upon which is slidably mounted two horizontally reciprocable jaws between which is pivotally mounted a crushing jaw, the upper portion of which is movable toward and away from each of the before mentioned jaws, such action automatically causing the F reciprocable jaw toward which the crushing jaw is moving to approach said crushingjaw. Any suitable means for actuating the crushing jaw may be utilized, but I haveV illustrated one such means in connection with a suitable mechanism for accomplishing the above result, in the drawings, which merely illustrate one form of the invention.

Referring now to the embodiment illustra-ted.

I have shown a base 1 upon which is mounted bearing elements 2 adapted to receive two shafts 3 and 4. The counter Y shaft 3 carries a disk 5. The main shaft 4 V jaws, the speed depending en the ratio in size of these two gear wheels 7 and 8. A pitmanY 9 eccentrically mounted upon disc 5 engages the crushing jaw 10, which is pivoted to the base 1 as at 11. Opposite faces of the jaw 10 may assume a compound curve, as has been found most satisfactory. Reciprocable jaws 12 and 13 are provided engaging the base 1 as by means of a dovetail 111, to prevent accidental displacement between the base and the jaws. Each jaw is provided with a depending extension 15, which is engaged by a bar 16, having projections 17 thereon. An extension 18, of the crushing jaw 10 is positioned between the two projections 17 and reciprocates the jaws 12 and 13 by bar 16. It will thus be seen that the crushing jaw 1() moves toward jaw 12, while jaw 13 moves away from crushing jaw 10, this action compelled by bar 16, which secures a double action.

Plates 19 and 2O are secured to the reciprocable jaws and form therebetween a hopper-like cavity into which the fruit is delivered when it is desired to crush the same.

A belt 21, preferably driven from the shaft l, operates a conveyor 22 through the sprocket 23 to remove the crushed fruit. The juice may be strained and removed from. the machine by any convenient means, and l have illustrated a funnel-like structure 24 beneath the conveyor 22` to receive the juice and convey the same to any desired locality.

What I claim is 1. A device of the character described, including a pivoted jaw member, a reciprocating jaw member, and means to cause the two jaws members to approach each other.
