Description

Nov. 13 1923.
G. J. DENNIS CLAMP FOR TANKS Filed Dec. 2, 1922 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Nov. 13, 1923.
PATENT OFFICE.
GIBBONS J. DENNIS, OF KIEFER, OKLAHOMA.
CLAMP FOR TANKS.
Application filed December 2, 1922. Serial No. 604,529. I
To all whom it may comem:
Be it known that I, ,GIBBONS J. DENNIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kiefer, in the county of Greek and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Tanks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clamping devices and has for its object the provision of a novel base and means associated therewith for effectually clamping a tank thereonto, the construction and arrangement being such as to insure maximum simplicity, ease of operationand economy of construction.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: W
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device holding a tank, the tank being in section,
Figure 2 is a vertical section,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the clamping members. i I
Referring more particularly to the drawingtheletter A designates an upright cylindrical tank which is here illustrated as being constructed of metal and which is provided at its bottom edge with an outwardly extending flange B.
In carrying out my invention I provide for the tank a bottom 10 which is here shown as formed of wooden bars or slats 11 arranged in edge to edge relation so as to be leak proof. The slats forming this bottom are of sufiicient length to project to quite a considerable extent beyond the fflange B at the lower edge of the tank and the ends of the slats are curved so that they will co-operate to define a circular periphery which is concentric with the tank. I also provide a plurality of binding members 12 which are of metal and which are arcuate in shape the curvature being such that they will conformingly engage upon the periphery of the wooden bottom. These binding members are arranged in somewhat spaced relation as shown and their clamping action with respect to the bottom is effected by means of a hoop 13 which seats within a plurality of notched lugs 14 projecting outwardly from the binding members. One end of this hoop is formed with a lateral ear 15 which receives the other end, and this other end is threaded as shown for carrying a clamping nut 16, which, when turned up will operate to contract the hoop and bind the membersthe tank may be quickly and easily seculed in position and that the device will operate to hold it rigidly and prevent any possible displacement. Owing to the simplicity of the construction and the fewness of the parts it is apparent that there is nothing to get out of order so that the device should-have a long life and satisfactorily perform all of its functions.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it is of course to be understood-that I reserve the .right to make such changes in the form,
construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention 1 claim:
1. In combination, a base, a tank mounted thereon and formed at its lower edge with an outwardly extending flange seated upon thebase, a plurality of clamping plates arranged in circumferential series and bearing upon the base and upon said flange, said clamping plates being formed with slots'extending radially with respect to the center of the base, and bolts passing through the base and through said slots.
2. In combination, a base, a tank mounted thereon and having an outwardly extending flange seated upon the base, and a plurality of clamping plates arranged in circumferential series and adjustably mounted upon the Y base for movement, radially of the base, said clamping plates having their outer edges bearing upon the base and their inner edges bearing upon said flange.
3. In combination, a base, a tank mounted thereon and provided at its lower ed e with an outwardly extending flange seate upon the base, a plurality of clamping plates arranged in circumferential series and bearing upon the base and upon said flange, and bolts passing through the base and through said clamping members.
In testimony whereofl afiix my signature.
Gl'B-BUNS J. DENNIS.
