The blank after being thus produced is welded Vto a shank 12 and has a floor lip cutter '13 formed upon one twist of the spiral and a chisel cutter let formed upon the land of the opposite spiral, as indicated in Fig. 2. It is also counterbored to form a socket for the reception of a removable center pin l5, after which the structure is carbonized, the degree oit earbonzation preferably being such as to leave the center of the stock unfected. The auger is then polished and the final edge nish is given to the floor lip and chisel cutters. That method of producing an auger blade of the double twist type froml Ylat bar stock, which consists in foreing the blade through a die having a pair of oppositely disposed spiral grooves of gradually7 decreasing pitch, the edges alone of theV blade engaging the grooves with the body of thepblade out of Contact with the Walls oi"v the grooves and die. i
