Description

A. ELIJAH.
Binders Platforms for Harvesters.
No.147,378, Patented Feb.10'.1874..
Attorneys.
n'rnn TATES /Newman ALLEN ELIJAH, OF CLARENCE, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BINDERS PLATFORMS FQR HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,378, dated February 10, 1874; application filed December 31, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLEN ELIJAH, of Clarence, in the county of Gedarand State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Attachment to Self-Raking Reapers for Carrying Binders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan view exhibiting my invention; Fig. 2, a side elevation, and Fig.3 a front elevation, of that portion of the reaper with which the stand is connected.
The invention relates to the stands employed upon that class of reapers wherein the grain is bound up into bundles before it is dropped; and consists in the novel means for accommodating the binders, hereinafter fully described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
A represents a platform over which works a sweep-rake that makes a side delivery at a, and B a frame that connects the left side of platform with the wheel'G, and supports the drivers seat D over the wheel. This frame has a rear projection, 12, provided with a clevis, and receives the stationary shaft 0,011 which the wheel revolves. E is a drivers stirrup on the end of shaft 0, and F, the binders stand arranged longitudinally along the left' and delivery side of the platform A. The stand F is connected with the stirrup E at one corner of its front by a chain, G, and at the other front corner with the projection b by another chain, H. This standF slides upon the ground or rides the stubble, and is held thereto by the weight of the binder standing at the front end 8, and is drawn directly from the wheel B. This invention is intended more especially for use in connection with the Kirby reaper, and has been found greatly to facilitate the labor of the binders, while it simplifies the location and connections of the stand.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination with platform A, having side delivery a, the frame B, having rear projection b, and the non-revolvin g shaft 0, having end stirrup E, of the sliding stand F, connected with stirrup by chain G at one front corner, and at the other with projection 11, by a chain, H, as and for the purpose described.
ALLEN ELIJAH.
