UhiilTm ST FRANK GRANT, OF WESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
HOLDER FOR SHAVING-SOAP STICKS.
Application filed November 14, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that F RANK GRANT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at VVestiield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Shaving-Soap Sticks, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in holders for shaving soap sticks and the like and was designed to provide a holder of simple construction comprising two members having interfitting relation with each other, the larger member being formed with a screw thread for propelling the soap stick therein and the smaller member being rotatable on the larger member and having a key for preventing rotation of the soap stick when the larger member is rotated relative to the smaller member.
Another object of the invention is to provide a soap stick for my improved holder, whereby the end of a fresh stick can be posi tively secured to the end or the remnant of a stick which has been largely consumed,
so as to provide a continuous feeding action With the above and other objects in view this invention relates to certain new and useful constructions, combinations and ar- 0 rangements of parts clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved holder.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof.
Figure 3 is a've rtical sectional view showing a remnant of a partly used soap stick coupled to a fresh stick in the holder.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view taken on an enlarged scale showing the joint between the smaller member or tube section and the larger member or tube section.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the holder.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the improved soap stick, showing a wrapped stick having screw threads formed thereon.
Figure 6 is a sectional view showing the stick holding tube.
iteferring to the accompanying drawings 5 designates the larger member or tube section and 6 the smaller member or tube section.
The large tube section 5 is formed with relatively wide screw threads 7 which are shown to extend but a minor portion of the Serial No. 338,104.
length of the section and are located inwardly of the delivery end thereof.
The smaller tube section 6 is fitted within the upper end 8 of the larger tube section 5, the interfitting portions of said tube sections being smooth to permit of a relative rotary action of one section on the other. In order to lock the. small tube section 6 against endwise movement on the large tube section 5 the section 5 is formed with an external head 9 in which the external head 10 of the tube section 6 is fitted. A portion of the tube section 6 extends endwise of the head 9 and is preferably formed with an external bead 11, which may be slightly roughened or corrugated so as to permit of the tingers of the user easily gripping the same. The tube section 6 is provided with an inwardly projecting key 12 which is longitudinally disposed therein and located above the screw thread 7 so as to engage the soap stick and prevent the soap from rotating when the same is advanced in the larger tube section 5. The soap is first held at one end and threaded into the tube until it engages with the key 12 and then a rotary movement is established between the key section 6 and the tube section 5.
The shaving soap stick 13 is preferably provided with a wrapper l4 and is formed with screw threads 15. One end of the stick 13 is formed with an integral stud 16 which is provided with external screw threads and the opposite end of the stick is formed with a socket 17 adapted to receive one of the studs 16 of a corresponding soap stick and the socket 17 is formed with internal screw threads 18 whereby the remnant as 19 of a partly used stick may be coupled with the fresh stick inserted in the large tube section 6.
In using the improved holder the beaded portion 11 may be gripped between the fin gers of one hand so as to hold the section 6 against turning and the section 5 rotated on the section 6 so as to propel the shaving stick within the holder, or the section 5 may be held against turning in the hand and the section 6 rotated so as to propel the shaving stick within the holder.
The inner surface of the section 6 is preferably aligned with the inner surface of the section 5, the section 5 being formed with an offset shoulder 5 whereby the lower edge portion of, the section 6 may seat thereon.
In Figure 5 I show a soap stick construction in which a paper wrapper 1 1 is arranged around the soap stick and provided with threads 15 extending the length there of. On this wrapper a paper or composition tube 20 is placed, said tube being provided with screw threads 21 to engage the threads 15. The lower end portion of the tube 20 is formed with a head 20. The tube 20 is placed around the shaving stick before the same is marketed so that the customer or user employs the entire unit as a tiller for a holder with which he is already equipped. One :lorm of such a holder is shown in Figure 6 and consists oi. a tube 22 having a head 22 formed in the lower end portion thereof adapted to embrace the bead .20 oi the fiber tube 20. The tube 22 is also formed with a skirt 22 having slits 22 therein, located below the head 22, whereby the bead 22* may be sprung on the head 20. The body of the tube 22 thus covers and conceals the thread 21 of the fiber tube. The upper end of the tube 22 projects endwise ot the fiber tube 20 and is equipped with an internal key 23 which is disposed longitudinally thereof to engage the soap stick. T he soap stick is provided with the usual socket l7 and stud 16 on opposite ends thereof if desired. By
this arrangement the customer may be supplied with a high grade holder tube 22 and an inexpensive propelling tube may be employed as a secondary wrapper forthe soap stick. The primary wrapper serves to prevent mutilation oi the exterior portion of the soap stick.
Having described my invention I claim:
1. A holder for shaving soap sticks and the like consisting of a pair of tube sections having interlitting connection one of said sections having; a screw thread to engage the soap stick or like and the other section having a he 1 on its side v-xall to prevent relative rotation oi? the soap stick within said section.
2. In combination, a soap stick having a threaded fibre jacket asimilarly threaded tube enclosing said jacket. and a second tube having no screw thread enclosing a portion of said threaded tube and rotatable on said portion and provided with a longitudinally disposed key on its wall to engage the soap stick and prevent its rotation within said second tube.
Signed by me at Springfield, Massachusetts.
